PLEASE NOTE: PPR is a very small rescue (we do not have an animal shelter, but Facebook doesn't have 'dog rescue' as a category) that is well known throughout California as one of the few rescues that will take puppies under 3 months old and pregnant dogs. Please do not message us with information on dogs you want us to save. If you have seen a puppy (or puppies) under three months old, or a pregnant dog at a local shelter, e-mail us at [email protected]. Please do not take this personally but there is no way we can save every dog that is called to our attention. We also get about 50 pleas per day and are on almost every rescue request list in the state, so we are usually aware of dogs that are in need of rescue. Thanks for understanding.

A Day in the Life of Liam

Our favorite short-stack Shepherd mix had a rather full schedule yesterday.

Morning: Off to the dog park for fetch, some running around, and quality time with his ball.

Midday: Stopped for ice cream. Liam is cautiously optimistic that someone ordered him a puppy scoop.

Afternoon: Obligatory photo session. He has excellent ears, a great smile, and absolutely no objection to being photographed.

Evening: Winding down with a little French homework. His pronunciation needs work, but he's making an effort.

And this is pretty typical of Liam. He's a social, curious, happy little guy who loves getting out and doing things. Walks, hikes, beach days, errands, dog playdates. He's not particularly fussy about the destination, just happy to be included.

He's also got a pretty impressive résumé:

✓ Great with dogs, cats, and kids
✓ Potty trained and crate trained
✓ Sleeps through the night
✓ Rides well in the car
✓ Smart, food motivated, and doing great with training
✓ Excellent couch companion once the day's activities are complete

Liam would thrive with an active family who will continue his training, and he'd be delighted to have a canine playmate.

His siblings have all found homes, and somehow Liam is still waiting for his. We genuinely can't figure it out. He's funny, affectionate, adaptable, and has had a fantastic start in life thanks to his foster dad.

Surely there's a family out there with room for a short-legged adventurer who occasionally studies French.

🐾 ADOPT CHER! 🐾

Eight weeks old, bright-eyed, curious about everything, and already figuring out how the world works.

Cher is one smart little cookie. After just a week of puppy training, she's learned to recognize the crinkle of the treat bag and comes running from wherever she is. We can't say she's mastered all her commands yet, but she's certainly mastered the part where treats are involved.

She's alert, affectionate, and loves being outside, whether she's exploring the yard, digging a little hole, or finding a particularly satisfying stick to chew. Every day brings something new to investigate, and Cher intends to investigate ALL of it.

She's looking for a family to grow up with, learn from, and love.

And when she finds them? I got you, babe! 🎶

☕️ Adopt Espresso! ☕️

This level of cuteness is simply too much. This is Espresso, the last of the Coffee Litter waiting to find his forever family.

Espresso is, in his foster's own words, "just amazing!". He is a great conversationalist, a pro-level snuggle bug, a comforting shadow, truly entertaining and full of puppy breath and kisses. And those are just some of his redeeming qualities. He's also crate trained and great with cats.

Happy National Pasta Day! Meet the Pasta Litter!

Who knew there was a National Pasta Day? Not me. But the timing couldn't be better because we have six delicious new arrivals to introduce!

Meet Ziti, Bucatini, Tortellini, Gnocchi, Capellini and Farfalle!

These little noodles had a pretty rough start. They were found living under an abandoned trailer near Nevada City, dodging wildlife and struggling to find enough food. Not exactly the puppyhood we'd wish for them, but thankfully that's all behind them now. From here on out, it's soft beds, full bellies, and la dolce vita.

The Pasta Pups are about 5 weeks old and have some Great Pyrenees in the family tree, so we're expecting them to grow into substantial servings! They'll do best with experienced, active families who have plenty of room, understand the needs of large working breeds, and can keep both their bodies and brains busy.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled puppy programming to help find Piper a home! 🐾

Piper is a pint-sized Rat Terrier with a pretty remarkable comeback story. Found running terrified through busy streets, she was scooped up by a kind stranger who has been fostering her ever since. And Piper has been making up for lost time.

She's discovered the joys of fetch, walks, wrestling with her foster siblings, and claiming prime couch real estate. She's about 1–3 years old, smart, crate-trained, house-trained, and gets along beautifully with dogs and cats.

Piper is still figuring out that the world isn't such a scary place. New people (especially men) and unfamiliar noises can make her nervous, so she's looking for a patient, quieter household where she can settle in at her own pace. A confident dog buddy would be icing on the cake.

Piper isn't a Pound Puppy Rescue dog, but we're happy to help her very kind rescuer find her the home she deserves.

🐾 🦴 🐾 ADOPT LIAM! 🐾 🦴 🐾

Can't stop, won't stop... looking for Liam's family.

Liam, for reasons the universe can't even begin to explain, is still waiting for his people. His siblings were adopted months ago, and somehow this handsome little character is still with us.

Fortunately, Liam has a pretty fantastic foster dad who's been giving him a great start in life. Puppy training classes, outings, adventures, plenty of socializing, and lots of love. Liam has been making excellent use of his time.

Here's the 9-1-1 on Liam:

He's about 10 months old, a Shepherd mixed with something adorably short, because those stubby little legs are clearly not standard equipment. Personally, I find them irresistible.

He's great with cats, dogs, kids, and grown-ups. Fully potty trained, comfortable in the car, and always delighted to see you. He LOVES toys, particularly anything he can chew, squeak, or proudly parade around the house.

And he's an adventure guy. Grab the leash and he's ready. Beach? Great. Hiking trail? Absolutely. Errands? Sure, why not? He doesn't particularly care where you're going. He's just happy he made the guest list.

Liam is still very much a puppy. He's got energy to burn, toys to investigate, places to go, and absolutely no intention of missing out on anything. But he's also outgrown some of the more exhausting early puppy nonsense. He'll do best with an active family who will keep building on his training.

If you've been following Liam's story for a while, maybe it's time to stop admiring him from afar and come meet him.

Look at his face and big smile. Liam is practically doing his own marketing.

Say hello to the Orchard Litter: seven adorable puppies (5 girls and 2 boys), born mid-July and ripe for picking by their forever families! (To date, three have been adopted.)

These sweet pups were living outside in an apple orchard in Northern California. Their dad is a Black Lab mix, and their mom looks like a sweet Hound x Australian Shepherd mix, giving them a wonderful blend of lovable personalities and classic good looks.

Here are a few picks of the crop:

Apple (girl): Truly the apple of our eye! Apple has a glossy black and tan coat and soulful brown eyes that will melt your heart faster than caramel on a warm apple.

Bing (boy): Sweet as his cherry namesake, Bing is a handsome black and tan boy with one floppy ear that likes to flip up whenever something catches his interest. He is ready for cozy evenings and long walks through crunchy fall leaves.

Hazel (girl): Warm as a roasted hazelnut, Hazel has a deep chocolate-black coat, a little white star on her chest, and white-tipped toes that look like she stepped in the first frost of the season.

Maple (girl): As colorful as autumn itself, Maple sports a striking tricolor coat of black, tan, and white, with a sweet white blaze down the face. Sweet as syrup and ready to fall in love, Maple would be the perfect addition to any family looking for a little extra warmth this season.

And of course, Mom! With her cream and ginger coat and one blue eye and one brown eye, it is easy to see where these pups get their good looks. She kept her babies safe out in that orchard, and now it is her turn to be cared for. Mom is also looking for a forever home where she can trade orchard life for a soft bed and a lap to rest her head on.

These pups are sweet, affectionate, playful, and loving, and they are ready to leave orchard life behind and start their next adventure with families who will love them forever.

This fall, skip the pumpkin patch and pick a puppy instead. If you are looking for a happy, loving companion to curl up with during sweater weather, one of these special orchard pups (or their wonderful mom) may be the perfect match!

☕️ ADOPT ESPRESSO! ☕️

Our little Espresso is officially the last of the Coffee Litter still looking for a family of his own.

He’s also the smallest, which he has wisely turned into a competitive advantage. More carrying. More lap access. More snuggles. Very little resistance from anyone involved.

Espresso is about 2 months old, a tiny Chiweenie with a ridiculously soft chocolate coat and an easygoing, affectionate personality. He’s dog friendly, cat friendly, loves attention, and is perfectly sized for those who appreciate a dog with excellent portability.

He may be the littlest pour, but he is making a very strong case for himself.
