Would I trust every protection-trained dog around my own family? Absolutely not.

I’ve seen plenty of dogs that look impressive doing protection work. That doesn’t always mean they belong in a family home.

Temperament, a clear head, and knowing when to switch off matter just as much to me.

That’s what I look for in every dog we train.

Oro has accomplished quite a bit for a dog that’s only 2.5 years old.

He’s already titled in Mondioring, a demanding protection dog sport that tests obedience, agility, and controlled bite work under challenging conditions. It takes a very stable, clear-headed dog with extreme levels of control to perform well in this sport.

On top of that, Oro has been cross-trained for real-world protection. Unlike sport training, where the dog works within a set of rules and exercises, real-life protection requires a dog to recognize and respond appropriately to situations that aren’t scripted.

Having a dog with this level of training in both areas is pretty special.

Doesn’t get much better than this.

Another 3,000 miles across the country, delivering dogs to their new families.

One of my favorite parts of this business is seeing the dogs in their new homes and getting to know the people who will share their lives with them.

After decades of doing this, I still believe there’s no substitute for being there personally, working with the family, answering questions, and helping everyone get off to a good start.

Every dog is different. Every family is different. That’s what makes getting the match right so important.

Over 10 years ago, we placed Dakota, a Dutch Shepherd, with her family in New York.

Today, we received these photos from her owners. A reminder that while protection may bring families to High-Class K9, it’s the years of companionship and memories that make the relationship truly special.

For years, while others in the protection dog industry dismissed the Doberman in favor of more traditional working breeds, High-Class K9 continued doing what we knew worked: selecting, developing, and placing exceptional Dobermans with families around the world.

Today, some of those same companies are adding Dobermans to their offerings.

We welcome it. The breed deserves the recognition.

But there’s a difference between recently recognizing an opportunity and having years of proven experience delivering on it.
