The AVSAB’s position on training is simple, science-based training by positive reinforcement trainers is the go-to. Other types of trainers that use shock collars, prong collars, and physical pain to teach your dog are not approved by the VETERINARIANS. The ones you trust to save your dogs life, do their surgeries, and keep them healthy.

So why would you not trust them to tell you what trainers you should use?

It's not always about dogs...Kay's K9s supports mental health and because of that, we support our friend Megan who is a mental health counselor for a local horry county school. If you have a few dollars to spare this month, it's back to school month and she needs some items to help the kids who see her feel comfortable, supported, and well-fed. She offers them an ear when they need someone to listen and a snack when they have a hungry belly, supporting our mental health professionals is extremely important. 🎉 CLASS ANNOUCEMENT🎉

My next AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class is now enrolling!
This 6-week program meets once per week and is designed to build a strong foundation of good manners, confidence, and social skills during your puppy’s most important developmental stage. Using positive reinforcement, you and your puppy will work on essential behaviors like sit, down, coming when called, leash walking, and polite interactions with people and other dogs, while also focusing on socialization and responsible ownership.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program is open to all puppies, including both purebreds and mixed breeds. Puppies who are not registered with the AKC can still earn the S.T.A.R. Puppy award and receive a certificate. Puppies with an AKC, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number can earn S.T.A.R. Puppy as an official AKC title—making it your dog’s very first training title.

The first class is a humans-only session (no puppies) where we will review testing materials, class expectations, and training methods. The final class is dedicated to completing the S.T.A.R. Puppy evaluation.

📍Where: Murrells Inlet Veterinary Hospital

🗓️When: Tuesday’s for 6 weeks starting July 21

⏰Time: 6:30PM

Requirements: Puppies must be at least 12 weeks old and no older than 1 year at the start of class and be up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations (proof of vaccines is required).

This class is the perfect starting point for raising a well-mannered, confident dog while preparing for future training goals like the Canine Good Citizen program.

This class is limited to 4 teams, 2 teams are required to hold a session.

‼️🚨Today is an INSIDE day for your dog. Don’t take them for a walk at 2pm. Don’t leave them out in your backyard except to potty. And don’t take them on adventures today.

You’re gonna be hot.
Your dog is gonna be hot.
Heat stroke in dogs is very real and very deadly.
Stay in the air conditioning🆒
Snuggle up and watch a good show.
Or maybe do some fun indoor enrichment activities like kongs, puzzles, sniff and find, hide and go seek, or even just do some general training!

One day inside won’t hurt them. One day without a walk won’t be the end of their world.🌎
