šŸ’™ Update on Nug 🐾

We’re so grateful to share that Nug’s surgery is complete šŸ’™

Thanks to the support of our incredible community and the help of our Community Funds, Nug was able to receive the care she needed. Her amputation went well, and she is now beginning her journey of healing and recovery.
While there is still a road ahead, Nug is already showing us just how strong and resilient she is. Animals have an incredible way of adapting, and we are hopeful that she will soon be back to enjoying life—comfortable, pain‑free, and surrounded by the person who loves her most.

Her mom has been by her side every step of the way, just as Nug has been there for her through so many chapters of her life. Being able to help keep that bond moving forward is exactly why these funds exist.

šŸ’™ This is what your support does.

It turns uncertainty into action.
It turns fear into forward steps.
It gives pets like Nug a second chance at a good, happy life.

We are so thankful to everyone who has supported, shared, and cared about Nug’s story. We were able to help Nug's family with a little over $350, which made a difference. And as we celebrate this step forward, we are reminded that there are more pets and families who will need this kind of help in the future.

🐾 Nug’s story is still being written—and now, it’s filled with healing, hope, and possibility.

Thank you for being part of that. šŸ’™

šŸ’™ Community Funds: Helping Nug 🐾
We’d like to introduce you to Nug, a 6‑year‑old Domestic Shorthair who means the world to his mom.
Right now, Nug is facing something difficult—a leg fracture that requires amputation so he can live a comfortable, pain‑free life. While this is a life‑saving and often life‑improving surgery, it comes with a cost that can feel overwhelming.
Nug’s mom is doing everything she can. She’s a single mom, working hard caring for the elderly while trying to make ends meet at home. Through it all—through pregnancies, through life’s difficult moments—Nug has been right there beside her, offering constant love and comfort.
And now, she’s trying to do the same for him.
She knows Nug still has so much life ahead of him. So much love left to give. And anyone who has ever loved a pet understands that feeling—wanting to give them every chance you can.
šŸ’™ This is where our Community Funds come in.
These funds exist for moments like this—when love is not the question, but resources are. When someone is trying, but just needs a little help to move forward.
We are asking our community to come together for Nug.
šŸ’™ If you are able, please consider contributing to our Community Funds to help support his care. Every donation—no matter the size—goes directly toward helping pets like Nug receive the treatment they need.
If you’re not able to give, sharing this post helps more than you know.
Together, we can help give Nug the chance to heal, to adapt, and to continue being the companion his mom has leaned on for so long.
Thank you for being part of a community that shows up when it matters most. šŸ¾šŸ’™

What would you do if, from a five story parking garage at your college, you spotted a pack of young puppies in a dirt lot next to a busy street?

When a group of college kids from GCU saw this, they jumped into action. They sprinted to the location and surrounded them. They were able to get them to safety, but the owner of the property wanted them gone. He had too many animals and was unable to care for them properly. This group of students couldn’t imagine not keeping them safe, so they took them home and spent hours bathing them, gathering and paying for supplies, and pulling off ticks. They also contacted me for help. True to the mission of Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue and Hospital, we had the students bring them to us where we vaccinated and dewormed them and set up their booster schedule. We have also committed to altering and microchipping them and vaccinating them according to the university rules.

Why did our always struggling rescue and hospital commit our time and money to this you ask? Well, when a group of young people who truly have no time, make time to perform a miracle for those pups, they deserve a hand up and a huge pat on the back.

Although the students willingly signed a pretty strict adherence policy, they decided they had a higher calling and had to help those that couldn’t help themselves. They knew the risks of fines and community service, but also couldn’t stand the thought of puppies being splattered on the busy road. The kids have in deed been fined and given community service hours for bringing them onto campus, but it didn’t matter because they followed their hearts and moral compass and did the humane thing.

GCU wants every pup fully vetted including their DHPP, Lepto, Bordatella and rabies vaccine. They want them all fixed and DNA tested so that they can match campus p**p not picked up to the dog so they can fine the owners. All of these expenses are paid by college students just trying to help some puppies. Instead of helping these young people with a solution, they fine the heck out of them instead. I’m blessed in a way because they are doing the community service with our rescue.

One, even took the initiative to go drop off a letter to the owner of the pups about our last litter program.

Anyway, in order to complete all of the vetting, it’s in the neighborhood of $400 per puppy. We do have a grant we’re using for the alters, but that leaves roughly another $1500 necessary to complete the rest of the services.

This is where the community fund comes in. Unfortunately, we already used it up on other underserved pets, so we’re reaching out to the love pack for some help.

When the world is finding ways not to help, these guys jumped into action. Not only that, but they are the sweetest, most compassionate kids I’ve ever met. Every.single.one.

If you could help us help them, I would be ever so grateful.

Love,
Debbie.

šŸ’™ Why What We Build Today Matters Tomorrow šŸ’™
Moon Doggie is the reason we do this.
But he’s also a reminder of something bigger.
His story had support—because this community had already begun building something before he needed it. And in that moment, it made a difference.
But there will be another Moon Doggie.
Another emergency.
Another family walking through our doors completely unprepared for what just happened.
And when that moment comes, the question won’t be ā€œDo they deserve help?ā€
It will be: ā€œDo we have enough to give?ā€
That’s why continuing to grow our Community Funds now is so important.
Because later is too late.
Later is when emotions are high, time is short, and decisions can’t wait.
Later is when families are hoping—desperately—that something, anything, exists to help them hold on a little longer.
What we build today becomes what we can offer in those moments.
Every contribution, every shared post, every bit of support adds to something real:

Another chance to say yes instead of I’m sorry
Another family given options when it feels like there are none
Another pet who gets help when time matters most

šŸ’™ If Moon Doggie’s story moved you, this is how that feeling turns into impact.
By continuing to build these funds, you’re helping write a different ending for the next emergency we haven’t met yet.
Because they’re coming.
And we want to be ready.
Thank you for helping us keep growing something that truly stands in those moments. šŸ¾šŸ’™

šŸ’™ Because of You: Moon Doggie šŸ’™
Today, we were able to use our Community Funds for the very first time—and it matters more than we can put into words.
Meet Moon Doggie, a sweet husky who found himself in a situation no family ever plans for. When the unexpected happened, his family was faced with the same fear, urgency, and overwhelming reality that so many experience in a medical crisis.
But this time, there was something more.
Because this community came together… because these funds were started… we were able to step in and help.
Not fix everything. Not remove every burden.
But offer support. Offer options. Offer a moment of relief in the middle of something incredibly hard.
And that matters.
Moon Doggie’s story is exactly why these funds exist. It’s proof that even small beginnings can create real impact. It’s a reminder that behind every emergency is a family hoping for one more chance, one more option, one more reason to breathe.
But it also reminds us of something just as important:
this is only the beginning.
Community Funds only go as far as we can build them. One case can make a difference—but growing these funds means we can help the next pet… and the one after that… and the one who hasn’t had their emergency yet.
šŸ’™ If you’ve been thinking about supporting our Community Funds, this is what it becomes.
It becomes help in real time.
It becomes compassion in action.
It becomes a different kind of outcome when it matters most.
Moon Doggie is part of this story now—and so are you.
Thank you for helping us build something that truly changes moments like this. šŸ¾šŸ’™

šŸ’” Why We Are Asking to Build Our Community Funds šŸ’”

No one ever thinks they’ll be the one sitting in that room.
No one expects to hear a number and feel their stomach drop while their heart is still beating for the pet they love.

Emergencies don’t wait. They don’t care how responsible you are, how much knowledge you have, or how deeply you love your animal. They come fast, violent, and unfair—and suddenly you’re forced to make decisions you never thought you’d have to make.

The truth is, when a pet’s life is hanging in the balance, there is no time to ā€œfigure it out.ā€ There is only shock. Panic. Love. And a clock that won’t stop moving.

Community Funds have to exist before that moment. They can’t be built after the crisis has already arrived. When someone is standing there sobbing, asking what options they have left, the funds either exist—or they don’t.

Too many families don’t choose to let go.
They run out of options.

Those goodbyes don’t happen because love wasn’t strong enough. They happen because help wasn’t available soon enough.

Building the Community Funds at Follow Your Heart Animal Hospital means choosing to meet those moments with something more than sympathy. It means having something to offer when everything feels like it’s falling apart. It means reducing the number of people who leave carrying the weight of ā€œwhat ifā€ for the rest of their lives.

These funds are not unlimited. They are not easy. They are handled with care, respect, and intention—because every dollar represents trust, hope, and a chance.

šŸ’™ If you can help us build these funds, you are helping future families breathe for one more second, consider one more option, and maybe—just maybe—keep their goodbye from coming too soon.

This is about love.
This is about loss.
This is about being ready when heartbreak knocks without warning.

Thank you for helping us build something that can stand in those moments. šŸ¾šŸ’™
