🧦 ROSCOE VS. THE SOCK… Roscoe won! 🐶💙
Meet sweet Roscoe! 👋 This handsome boy decided a sock looked like a pretty good snack Wednesday night. 😳🧦
His mom brought him to us the next day, where Dr. Rought took X-rays. Sure enough, the sock was still hanging out near the lower portion of his stomach.
At that point, there was an important decision to make: Do we wait and hope it passes, while closely monitoring for GI symptoms… or try to get it out before it moves farther into the intestinal tract?
After discussing the options, Roscoe’s mom and Dr. Rought decided to induce vomiting — and thankfully, up came the ENTIRE sock! 🎉👏 No surgery needed!
⏰ Roscoe’s story is a great reminder that TIMING MATTERS when pets swallow something they shouldn’t.
Foreign objects like socks, underwear, toys, bones, corn cobs and other household items can potentially cause dangerous gastrointestinal obstructions. What may be an option shortly after ingestion may no longer be safe or effective once an object moves farther through the GI tract.
If you know or suspect your pet swallowed something they shouldn’t have, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Call your veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinary team can determine the safest next step based on what was swallowed, when it happened, your pet’s condition and where the object may be located.
And please — never try to induce vomiting at home unless specifically instructed by a veterinarian.
