Memorial Day weekend means barbecues—and barbecues mean accessible food. Remember not to give cooked bones to your dog!

Cooked bones splinter. They become brittle and break into sharp pieces that can perforate the GI tract, cause a blockage, and result in emergency surgery.

Have a safe weekend, eat good food, spend time with family, and stay out of the vet's office!

P.S. Also, keep an eye and a leash on your dog so they can't steal your neighbor's rack of ribs! 😜

Attention future dog trainers! Defender K9 is offering an in-person handler school classes for future trainers or dog owners who want to understand their dog. We are starting with Obedience/Behavior Modification/ service dogs this fall. Speciality classes we be announced. Also a hybrid class for this fall will be coming out in the next month if that is more your style. The hybrid class will consist of online lectures and quizzes. Please note that all practical skill exams and the final exam will be in person at the Defender K9 facility (London Ohio).

This course is structured in the following way:

Weeks 1-6 Dog History/Foundational knowledge/basic and advanced Obedience

Weeks 7-9 You will get 3 weeks of behavior issues/reactivity training/behavior modification

Weeks 10-15 Service Dog foundational skills and task training.

Happy 5th birthday Nova! This dog is Defender K9’s jack of all trades! She is a demo dog that does everything from obedience to service dog work to tracking and scent detection (explosives)!!!! She is truly the other half of my soul ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾. Many more beautiful girl!!!

Defender K9 welcomes Duke! Duke is a white GSD just shy of 2 years old. He will be with us for 4-6 weeks to work through some separation anxiety issues as well as getting an obedience foundation! ❤️🐾
