An Update on Alex and Vader 💛

Living with epilepsy can mean facing frightening seizures and never knowing when one might happen. That uncertainty can weigh on the whole family.

Vader came to Medical Mutts from Young-Williams Animal Center. After months of training, he was matched with Alexandra in Denver in December. He now alerts Alex before about 90% of her larger seizures. When he does, he follows his trained response: pressing a button, helping her onto her side, and cuddling close. That warning, and knowing Vader is there, has brought Alex and her family more peace of mind.

After a seizure, he stays beside Alex until she feels like herself again. She calls him “a true bundle of joy” who brings a smile to everyone’s face.

Vader has already flown with Alex to several states and Canada, and joined her at conferences with Ben’s support. 💛

🚨 HELP US FIND GRACIE A HOME! 🚨

Gracie has been waiting for more than eight months. She deserves a quiet place of her own and a person who will love her just as she is. Could you be the one she’s been waiting for? 💛

Gracie is a Collie and Lab mix who would thrive in a calm, adult home where someone is around most of the time. She needs to be the only pet, and a fenced yard would be a big plus because leash walks can be stressful for her.

What does Gracie bring to the arrangement? Sweet companionship, favorite toys to show you, affectionate leg rubs, and her world-class “woowoos.” She may even be persuaded to join you for a quiet hike!

Gracie’s adoption fee has been waived. Please share this post and help us get her home!

Five dogs. Five different personalities. Maybe one is the companion you’ve been hoping to meet. 🐾

Come meet them this Saturday at our adoption event!

🎾 Wesley: about 1½ years old and 60 lbs. Affectionate, playful, and eager to learn, he especially loves squeaky tennis balls. He’s still practicing polite greetings and would do best in a home without children, with no other pets or a tolerant dog.

💛 Gracie: Looking for a quiet home with an adult and no other pets. She’ll bring you company, her toys, and her world-class “woowoos.”

❄️ Tonja: 3 years old and 60 lbs. This sweet, spirited Husky mix enjoys other dogs and would do best with adults who’ll let her enjoy her meals in peace.

😄 Funyun is a Retriever mix. He’s affectionate, friendly, funny, loyal, and playful.

🧸 Robocop: 3 years old and 63 lbs. This goofy, toy-loving German Shepherd mix enjoys his people, knows several cues, and likes dog friends when toys aren’t around.

Adopting through Medical Mutts comes with support for your new beginning: veterinary care, a behavioral evaluation, a home trial, post-adoption guidance, and two private training sessions to help you and your dog get settled together. www.medicalmutts.org

📅 Saturday, October 24 | 10 a.m.–noon

Training Tip Tuesday 🐾
When we take a dog into public, we want them to be unobtrusive, out of people’s way and not disrupting anyone, and safe from being tripped over or accidentally stepped on.

That means paying attention to where they stop, sit, or stand, and which side of us they’re on. In this photo, Fritos is settled beside a shelf, away from foot traffic. We also make sure a dog’s tail isn’t sticking into the walkway and position them where people are less likely to reach for them or step on them.
Fritos came to us from LifeLine Animal Project in Atlanta.

A little sneak peek behind the scenes at Medical Mutts 🐾 Every dog in this video came from rescue. Bluey, Molasses, Sabrina, Theo, and Mater are working toward becoming service dogs, one step at a time.
Lots of scent work today, as it's an important part of training for many of our dogs. Depending on the person they may support, a dog may learn to alert to scent changes associated with diabetes, seizures, PTSD, migraines, and other conditions.

🐾 Welcome to our first ! 🐾

Every Friday, we'll share one easy way you can support the rescue dogs training to become life-changing service dogs here at Medical Mutts.

This week: our **Chewy Wish List**

Meet Robocop, who'd like to show you his chew collection. 😄

Our pups in training work HARD, and they chew hard too. Good chews and toys help keep them happy, calm and ready to learn.

Here's how it works:
1️⃣ Visit our wish list (link below / link in bio)
2️⃣ Pick an item that fits your budget
3️⃣ It ships straight to our dogs. That's it!

Can't give this week? Sharing this post helps too! Thank you for all you do for our pups!

Dannielle stopped by ARCO recently, and she was welcomed with lots of smiles. She came to us from Young-Williams Animal Center and is getting close to graduating as a service dog in the next few months!

Visits like this give her a chance to practice settling in a workplace and staying focused with new people around. Thanks to everyone at ARCO for making her feel so welcome. We’re excited to see what’s next for Dannielle! 🐾
