POV: someone keeps telling me it’s about the editing.
There’s a big difference between creating something that looks real and showing you something that actually IS real.
This is the latter.
Photographing puppies isn’t a movie set. There’s no production crew waiting off camera. No perfectly timed takes. No puppies hitting their marks. No magic edit that makes the actual work easier.
It’s patience, persistence, creativity, a little chaos, whoever I can convince to help me that day 😂 and doing it again when the first attempt doesn’t work.
Could I polish every second of the behind-the-scenes until it looks like a production?
Of course.
But why would I hide the very thing I’m inviting you backstage to see?
The behind-the-scenes is the work.
The photographs are the art.
But the puppies who join your family, and the dogs they grow into, are the true jewels behind all of it.
That’s why I think there’s value in showing you both the beautiful moments and the messy ones.
Because behind every photograph is a real puppy being raised, loved, taught and prepared for a life that will eventually have very little to do with me and everything to do with the family waiting on the other side.
Twenty years into this, I’m still out here doing the work, creating the ideas, photographing the puppies, capturing the video and sharing what it actually looks like behind the pretty pictures.
And yes, I notice the people who consistently show up to critique the work while somehow never showing up to support it.
You might think that goes unnoticed.
It doesn’t. 😉
