Sometimes I could come up with a really sappy phrase to put over a video but this time, I have nothing to say other than that my heart just really hurts for this girl. No name, no microchip, no idea of her past 10 years on earth. She came to the shelter already spayed and overweight - I feel strongly that she once had a home. On top of that, she can’t seem to see or hear. I don’t think she was on the streets on her own for very long. She’s been here for two weeks and will absolutely be on the urgent list soon. Regardless, she should be cozied up in a home, not here in a kennel.

Medical Notes:

9/29 Large amount of occular discharge cleaned from both eyes, some cataracts in both eyes
as well as conjunctivitis, applied terramycin to both eyes, applied bravecto 44-88lb topical
3 month flea prenvention. Has small growth on rear left leg

10/2 OU: conjunctivitis, mucopurulent ocular discharge, corneal edema, and neovascularization
Fluorescein stain: negative OU
Recommend treatment with Neopolydex ophthalmic solution BID to TID
Depending on how the eyes look after improvement, may need to consider eyelid surgery

10/13 Euthanasia List: Chica & Puppies, 2Y/4W, HW+, Rescue Only
Chica came in as a euthanasia request with an old AID so I’m not sure what the story is there. She’s a little nervy girl but has shown a lot of bravery, coming out of her kennel and walking on a leash and taking treats and accepting pets. This is a girl that will be just fine out of the shelter!

Why are moms & puppies always on the euthanasia list? This is why! This is ONE day at ONE high intake kill shelter. 8 moms, 56 puppies that are too young to be separated and put into adoptions on their own. There is simply no room.

Chica is the only mom and pups that are still in need. All of the other families were on the euthanasia list and have been tagged by rescues!

“The more you look, the more you find. It’s all around you all the time” is a good motto to use when it comes to dogs at the shelter. There are diamonds in the rough waiting for their change to shine, and that chance could start with you!

Thankfully for Crystal, she had the fastest plan come together and Pippy’s Pals Rescue has gotten her out of the shelter and into a foster home!!! She’s a lucky little girl 🥺 Thank you everyone for caring about her the way I did!

I have found the love of my life and her name is Crystal! I have been itching to find myself an itty bitty submissive little stinky pittie and A2098530 Crystal SCRATCHED that itch! She is SOOOOO CUTE I was literally squealing with delight meeting her. No for real turn your sound off on these videos I am so annoying.

She’s been at BARC for a week already with no interest ☹️ I would hate for her to end up in the wrong hands so I’m praying and crossing my fingers that she could potentially get out early with a rescue or good adopter! She has great staff notes, is positive for demodex (not contagious), heartworm negative and had very positive dog interactions. Please let me know if you can help!

I think the argument I am most tired of having is the “don’t take them to the shelter” argument. I kid you not, someone could post a hairless, legless, toothless dog on the streets with its eye hanging out of its head, and when you open the comments someone is saying “please don’t take to a shelter, they will euthanize”. I see it so often that I truly don’t have the energy to fight it anymore.

The streets are not freedom. A dog can die on the street without ever getting the opportunity for someone to save them. Shelters are good places. Yes, even kill shelters. A shelter ensures a chance to find an owner, a foster, a rescue, or an adopter. I beg of you to always try your best to put the dogs’ well being before your own emotions. It can hard, but it will always be the right choice.

Aerith and her little ones are on the euthanasia list for tomorrow. I’m SO glad they’re off the streets and that she can sleep soundly enough that she can twitch, and that her puppies feel safe enough to be belly up. She is extremely petrified and is a major flight risk. She has reportedly chewed through leashes in order to get away, but she has shown no aggression even when cornered. If you are wanting to help her, please take this into consideration and ensure all safety measures are in place.

10/7 Euthanasia List: Eevee & Pups
Sometimes you meet a scared dog and can tell instantly that with the tiniest bit of patience that you’re not going to have any issues getting them out of the kennel and opening up. That’s Eevee! This girl has been at the shelter for quite some time. She gave birth after arriving, right before her spay, which isn’t rare - a lot of dogs just need to feel safe in order to finally pop. She’s the most beautiful lady!

Awwwwwwww man. I hate this. Old man Gatsby came in as a cruelty confiscate. The first slide is how he was living previously. It makes me physically sick to my stomach. Why the actual f do you have a dog to keep it chained up 24/7? It’s deplorable and I hope karma comes to his owner. Anywayyyyyy Gatsby has moved on and is the happiest, loosest, waggiest guy. He has perfect staff notes and is on his best behavior. He thinks the shelter is heaven and he never wants to leave! He’s in desperate need of a few pounds but otherwise seems like a chill dude. I hope I get to see him living the life he deserves.

A little puppy vlog for your Friday with the very adoptable Lady! Lady A2097905 is a 5 month old spayed little pittie mix. She’s SOOOO GOOD for her age! She was jumpy at first of course but calmed down so fast. She’s ready to leave the shelter with you this weekend 🙂
