We see it constantly this time of year. A pet comes in for nonstop, scratching, licking or recurring ear infections and the owner has no idea those things are all connected. Most people assume itching means dry skin or fleas, when it’s very often allergies showing up in a bunch of different ways.

We are deep into allergy season here in Georgia right now and the heat and humidity make it about as rough as it gets for itchy pets. So we wanted to break down what that scratching might actually be telling you. The paw licking, the ear infections that keep coming back, the greasy or smelly skin, these are all signs worth paying attention to, not just quirks to live with.

The best part is that once we figure out what’s behind it, there’s usually a lot we can do to help. If this sounds like your pet, you’re definitely not alone, and it’s
absolutely worth a conversation.
