Hot pavement can burn your dog’s paw pads in just a matter of seconds. 😲

A good rule of thumb: place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you to keep your hand there comfortably, it’s too hot for your dog to walk on. 🐾

Even when the air temperature feels pleasant, asphalt and concrete can heat up much faster in direct sunlight. On an 85°F day, pavement temperatures can climb well over 130°F. 🥵

Burned paw pads can be painful and may cause limping, licking, redness, or blistering.

To keep your dog safe:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
• Stick to grass whenever possible
• Watch for signs that the ground is too hot
• Consider protective booties for sensitive paws

If your pet is limping after a walk or you notice irritation on their paw pads, give us a call or book an appointment online. We’re here to help keep those paws happy all summer long. 😎
