💡 Training Focus: Instead of just “don’t bolt,” practice your Place cue.

✨ How to Train:
• Move your dog’s mat, cot, or bed close to the door.
• Practice “Go Place,” reward, release.
• Add short sessions with distractions — knocks, doorbell, or a friend’s surprise knock.
• If your dog isn’t ready to stay, tether them safely to a table leg, railing, or doorknob.
• For nervous dogs, position them farther back — close enough to see but far enough to feel safe.

COSTUME CHECK
🦸♂️🐶 Planning a costume for your pup? Read this first!

Most dogs aren’t scared of the costume. They’re scared of having it suddenly put on them. The secret is going slow.

Here’s how we do it at Good Dog Paws using the 3 D’s (Distance, Duration, Distraction):

1️⃣ Set the costume on the floor. When your dog sniffs it, say “YES!” and give a treat.
2️⃣ Touch the costume to their back for one second. “YES!” and treat.
3️⃣ Drape it on loosely, then take it right off. Keep sessions short and happy.
4️⃣ Fasten it for 10 seconds, then 30, then a minute. Build the time slowly.
5️⃣ Once they’re relaxed, add movement: a short walk around the house.

🛑 Watch for lip licking, a tucked tail, freezing, or the “whale eye” (white of the eye showing). Those signs mean you went too fast. Back up a step. And if your dog never warms up to it? A festive bandana counts too! 🎃

Fun AND focused, that’s how great habits are built.

Structure creates success! 🐾 Dogs thrive when they know what to expect — it builds confidence and prevents unwanted behaviors.
Try this daily rhythm for a balanced, happy pup:

👉 Crate (rest time)

👉 Outside (potty + play)

👉 Inside (leash time with you — snuggles or quiet play)

👉 Back outside (potty again)

👉 Return to crate (reset + relax)

Repeat this cycle to build good habits, strengthen your bond, and keep your dog’s day calm and predictable.
