This week my girls got to experience their very first beach trip!

A few key basic manners went into enjoying our days on the beach:

1️⃣ A solid recall so the girls didn’t get too far away!
2️⃣ A well rehearsed “leave it” cue to keep Reagan from picking up a dead fish she found.
3️⃣ A highly reinforced “give” to ask Reagan to drop the fish she picked up before I saw them. 🤣 AND to ask Allie to drop her toy for another retrieval throw in the waves.

All in all, this was definitely a highlight for the girls this summer. What is your dog’s favorite summer activity?

Knowing skills like sit, stay, come when called, and walking nicely on a leash are great for all dogs, but unfortunately, they aren’t the magic wand many people think when it comes to solving your dog’s reactivity.

So why does a well-trained “leave it!” cue fail when your dog sees their nemesis out on your walk?

- Obedience training does not address the underlying emotions
- Dogs cannot perform behaviors on cue when stressed
- Some traditional obedience programs still rely on outdated methods
