Back-to-School Safety Tips for Your Pets!🎒
As the school year gets underway, our routines change—and that can mean a few extra hazards for our four-legged family members. Keep these tips in mind:
🚌Watch for school buses: Keep pets safely away from buses, busy streets, and driveways during drop-off and pick-up.
Curious pets can easily dart into traffic.
🍎Be careful with after-school snacks: Kids love to share, but many human foods aren’t safe for pets. Remind children to ask before giving their furry friend a treat, and keep chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, and xylitol-containing foods away from pets.
🔥Check the pavement: Texas pavement can stay dangerously hot even after the school day ends. Before an after-school walk, test the pavement with the back of your hand. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws! Consider walking on grass or waiting until temperatures cool.
💧Keep everyone hydrated: Make sure your pet has access to fresh water, especially after outdoor activities.
🎒Watch backpacks and school supplies: Keep pencils, erasers, glue, crayons, and other supplies out of curious mouths. Some can cause choking or gastrointestinal problems if swallowed.
🐶Give pets a quiet place: Back-to-school schedules can be exciting and stressful. Make sure your pet has a comfortable, quiet spot to retreat to when the house gets busy.
Here’s to a happy, healthy, and safe school year for the whole family—two-legged and four-legged! 🐾❤️
