UPDATE - OWNER LOCATED AND DOG REUNITED.
Thank y'all for assisting us with this one!

If you are missing your senior dog, we have him at the Floyd County Animal Shelter! He was found wandering on Indian Valley Road NW in heat distress. Please give us a call at 540-745-9365. We are in office until 4PM today, and will be here tomorrow 10am-4pm as well!

If you are experiencing an animal emergency, please call the non- emergency number for the Floyd County Sheriff's Office at 540-745-9334. For any non- emergent questions or concerns, you can come down to the shelter anytime before 4PM or email us at [email protected].

Meet the pups! Potato and Lucky are our youngest residents here at Floyd County Animal Shelter. They're both very happy, playful and smart puppies with so much love to give! Both pups are wonderful with kids and everyone they've met, but aren't the best around other dogs, however, that could change with the right training and proper introduction/ integration. Meet Nelson! He's around 8 years old, sweet and young at heart with plenty of energy. He's ready for his next adventure! He is already neutered and up to date on his Rabies vaccine! We don't know much about Nelson's past, but we do know he has spent a couple years as a stray and in and out of shelters and he's ready for someone to give him a comfortable home with lots of play time and affection. They came here together and we would love for them to be adopted together, but let's be honest, the shelter isn't an ideal space for any dog, let alone older doggos, so even if they have to separated it would be an improvement for them. They deserve to live out their golden years with lots of love, snuggles and naps on the couch. Skip the puppy chaos and gain two easy-going ready to snuggle companions. Meet your new dedicated Animal Control Officers, Officer Decker, Officer Blevins and Officer Battell.
The three of us bring a wide range of experience, dedication and knowledge to the field of Animal Care and Control. We look forward to working with the community and forging local partnerships in order to better serve Floyd County.
Our public hours have been expanded to Tuesday- Saturday 10am-4pm, and we always have one officer on-call for animal-related emergencies.

We recently have received several calls about black bears with mange. Wildlife falls under the purview of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. Please contact them at the Wildlife Conflict Helpline at (855) 571-9003 or visit their website at www.dwr.virginia.gov/wildlife/bear for all of your "bear" necessities.
DO NOT APPROACH, FEED, OR ATTEMPT TO TREAT THE ANIMAL WITH MEDICATION.
Be Bear Wise and keep the wildlife, wild in Floyd County.

Friday, tomorrow, will be my last day at the Floyd County Animal Control, Animal Shelter. My time here has been incredible and unforgettable. Thank you to Sheriff Brian Craig and the entire Floyd County Sheriff's Office for the opportunity and the hospitality. All places of employment t should be so good. As a reminder of the great time I have had, I am adopting this young Lab Mix to keep with me in my heart. Please help welcome my new baby to his new Furever home. By the way, I named him Floyd
