Hi, Im Happy and trust me, the name fits.

Im an almost 3-year-old mixed breed, possibly a Black Mouth Cur / German Shepherd mix, weighing about 60 pounds. Im tall, athletic, handsome (if I do say so myself), and ready to find the family Ive been dreaming about.

Everyone who meets me seems to ask the same question: "How is this dog still available?" Honestly, Id like to know too.

My story started in rural Tennessee, where I was found as an underweight stray puppy. When no one came looking for me, the shelter staff knew I deserved a better chance and helped me make my way to Illinois, where Safe Haven is helping me search for my forever home.

Since leaving the shelter, my world has gotten so much bigger. I've gained confidence, learned new routines, made new friends, and discovered that life is pretty awesome when you have people who care about you.

Recently, I even got to go on vacation with another foster family, and let me tell youI crushed it. I settled in like a pro, charmed everyone I met, and spent my days having a blast running around the yard with my buddy Rex. New people? No problem. New house? Got it. New dog friend? Even better! My foster family says they've seen me grow so much, and they're incredibly proud of the dog I've become.

Im an active guy who loves long walks, adventures, playtime, and zooming around a fenced yard. If you're looking for a jogging partner, hiking buddy, fetch enthusiast, or professional squirrel spotter, Im ready to apply for the position.

Speaking of fun, toys are one of my favorite things in the world. Squeaky balls, nylabones, leather toysyou name it, Im probably a fan. I can entertain myself, but Id much rather have you join in.

The best part? When playtime is over, I know how to relax. Im quiet and well-mannered in the house. While you're working, Im happy to nap nearby. Watching TV? I'll be stretched out close by, making sure you're not lonely. I'm the perfect mix of adventure buddy and couch companion.

Im also a pretty smart cookie. I already know sit, stay, come, leave it, and down/off. Since snacks are one of my love languages, Im always excited to learn new things.

I currently live with two other dogs and get along well with them. Id love a playful dog friend who enjoys romping around as much as I do, but Id also be perfectly happy soaking up all of your attention as your one-and-only sidekick. I do think squirrels and rabbits are extremely suspicious creatures, so a cat-free home would be best for me.

Im fully housebroken, walk nicely on leash, and enjoy having a fenced yard where I can stretch my legs and enjoy the fresh air.

After spending time in a shelter, Im really enjoying being part of a family. I like being near my people and would thrive in a home where I get plenty of companionship and love.

What I don't understand is why I'm still waiting.

Im loyal, affectionate, smart, fun, adventurous, and happiest when I'm sharing life with my humans. Ive spent a long time hoping for a family of my own, and I know they're out there somewhere.

Maybe they're reading this right now.

If you're looking for a best friend who will make you laugh, keep you active, comfort you when you're down, and love you with his whole heart, Im your guy.

My bags are packed. My tail is wagging.

Now I just need someone to say, "Happy, let's go home."

Bella is a 2-year-old, 24-pound spayed mixed-breed sweetheart who has finished raising her puppies and is finally ready for something that's all about her—a forever family of her own!

This adorable low rider is bursting with personality and charm. If there’s a tennis ball nearby, Bella is ready for action! Fetch is one of her favorite activities, and a fenced yard where she can run, play, and chase toys would be her dream come true.

Bella is equal parts playful and cuddly. She absolutely loves toys and takes great pride in "redecorating" them by enthusiastically removing their stuffing. After a hard day's work of toy destruction and ball chasing, she's more than happy to curl up next to her favorite people for a cozy nap.

When bedtime arrives, Bella prefers to be close to her family. Her favorite spot is at your feet in bed, but she's also perfectly content snoozing in her own bed nearby.

Bella gets along well with other dogs and has been wonderful with children. Because she loves toys so much, she may occasionally assume that children's toys belong to her too, so little ones may need a reminder to keep their special treasures picked up.

While she's not a fan of being confined in a closed crate, Bella does enjoy relaxing in an open crate when she chooses. She's trustworthy when left home alone and has been respectful of her foster family's belongings.

Bella's ideal home is one that appreciates her playful spirit, loving heart, and desire to be part of the action. Whether she's chasing a ball, supervising daily activities, or snuggling up for movie night, Bella simply wants to be where her people are.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a big personality, a playful streak, and endless love to give, Bella may be the perfect addition to your family.

Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450.

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, f***l test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip.

To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddle expertise, Finn may just be your guy!

Finn is a handsome 5-year-old pup with a heart of gold. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give him some patience and a little time, and you'll discover one of the sweetest, most loving dogs around. Once he trusts you, Finn's favorite place is right by your side.

This lovable boy still has plenty of pep in his step and absolutely loves his daily walks. When playtime rolls around, his goofy side takes center stage! Tennis balls, squeaky toys, and especially squeaky balls are his absolute favorite things in the world. He also enjoys spending time outdoors and occasionally making questionable life choices—like rolling around in the dirt. (He always regrets it when bath time arrives!)

Finn is fully potty trained, doesn't require a crate, and already knows several commands including sit, paw, and lay down. While grooming and nail trims can make him a little nervous, he does well with patience, reassurance, and a steady supply of treats.

Finn has lived successfully with children of all ages and cats. He currently shares his foster home with other dogs and does well, but he'd appreciate canine companions who understand that everyone needs a little personal space sometimes.

His ideal family will be one that gives him the time he needs to settle in, plenty of love and attention, daily walks, and lots of belly rubs. In return, Finn will reward you with loyalty, companionship, and that adorable puppy-dog face that is impossible to resist.

If you're searching for an all-around good boy who is equal parts adventure buddy and couch companion, Finn is ready to meet you and steal your heart.

‼️‼️ Fosters Still Needed Urgently – Can Arrive Sunday, May 31 ‼️‼️

It is very hot at the shelter in Tennessee, and these pups deserve so much more than spending their days waiting in overcrowded conditions. They are scheduled to arrive at Safe Haven Dog Rescue on Sunday, May 31, but transport can only happen if we have confirmed, committed foster homes in place.

Without fosters, they cannot come. These puppies deserve cool homes, soft beds, toys to play with, and people to love them while they wait for forever families. Right now, they are missing out on the simple joys every puppy should have — belly rubs, naps on the couch, learning new things, and feeling safe.

Meet the puppies who need fosters:

🐶 Duncan 🐶

Mixed breed, male, approximately 4 months old, approximately 20 lbs.

Duncan is currently in a foster home where he is working hard on housebreaking, crate training, and basic commands. He plays wonderfully with the resident dogs in his foster home and is described as cuddly, sweet, and very socialized. Duncan loves being near people, happily follows his humans around, and is always ready for playtime or a snuggle session afterward. Like most puppies his age, he is curious about everything and has that fun, goofy puppy personality that keeps everyone smiling. He is up to date on age-appropriate vetting.

🐶Pochantos🐶

Fluffy mixed breed, female, approximately 8 weeks old, approximately 8.5 lbs.

Pochantos is loving, friendly, playful, and absolutely adorable. This tiny fluffball was apparently dumped at a rural trash collection site and arrived filthy and covered with fleas. Now she is cleaned up, flea-free, and thriving with regular meals, toys, and care. She loves attention, enjoys being held, and bounces around with happy puppy energy. Her sweet personality shines through in everything she does, from playful zoomies to curling up for naps after a busy day of exploring. You will not find one any sweeter. She is up to date on age-appropriate vetting.

🐶 Little Dan 🐶

Hound mix, male, approximately 5 months old, approximately 23 lbs.

Little Dan is extremely social and full of nonstop puppy fun. He walks well on a leash, loves meeting new people, and approaches life with excitement and enthusiasm. He enjoys playtime, adventure, and being part of whatever is going on around him. Like many hound puppies, he is smart, active, and always ready to investigate the world with his nose leading the way. Because he can climb wire fences, he will need either a 6-foot wooden fence or leash walks only. He is up to date on vaccines, wormer, flea and tick prevention, and other age-appropriate care.

🐶 Stella 🐶

We have been offered a deaf, 3 year old pudgy (she needs some exercise) Frenchie from Tennessee who can arrive this Sunday. Her name is Stella.

She's bossy and would thrive with a submissive dog or alone. She's good with adults, unknown on kids. She doesn't like just 1 person...her owner's father who moved in with Parkinsons and limited mobility. Because he is hunched and shaky, she gets nervous and snaps. It's the only person she dislikes and the owner has people in and out all the time without issue.

She's up to date on vaccines and gets a yearly proheart shot to prevent HW.

Say hello to Truffle — the sweetest little snack-sized puppy around!

This adorable 9-week-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix is serving up the perfect combination of playful puppy fun and calm cuddle buddy energy. With his stunning blue eyes, soft white-and-gray coat, and squishy little face, Truffle has mastered the art of stealing hearts wherever he goes.

At around 9 pounds, Truffle is one of the most easygoing puppies you’ll ever meet. He’ll zoom around and play hard for a bit, then happily curl up in his bed for a nap like a tiny old soul. He sleeps through the night in his crate like a champ and is already doing incredibly well with potty training. As long as his humans keep him on a regular schedule, he trots right outside and handles business immediately.

Truffle loves playing with his puppy brother and his much larger foster dog siblings, and he absolutely adores kids. He’s become a favorite with his foster family’s 10-year-old and friends thanks to his endless tail wags, sweet kisses, and goofy puppy charm. He may sneak in an occasional playful nibble, but mostly he just wants to love everyone he meets.

He’s also doing great around cats — curious but respectful, and perfectly happy to let them go about their business without chasing after them.

If you’re searching for a gentle, lovable puppy with movie-star eyes and an amazing personality to match, Truffle may just be your perfect new best friend.
