Sad news for a long time customer, pluggged the wrong AC adapter into their external hard drive. The drive contained years of data including photos, the hard drive is completely frozen and shorted. It will have to go out to the data recovery people.
It's something we've all done, going through that box of old AC adapters looking for the one that fits our devices.
Just because it fits doesn't means it's the right one ☝️

Care should be taken when installing hardware such as a power supply. Always use the screws provided by the mfg, or the proper length.
The screw on right is the correct one, PC came in with two screws on the left installed into the power supply.
Incorrect screw lengths could short out and damage components.

Thought I would share one of our 470,
5-Star Google Reviews from last week:

"David has done absolutely amazing JOB. A MONSTER of a task with failing hardware having to get a new cpu motherboard combo. David being understanding and affordable makes this mostly painless in this economy.

He understood the problem and fixed it with precision thank you again David if you read this. 10/10"

Badly swollen battery actually expanded and dislodged the motherboard and warped the mouse pad.....
Laptop batteries should be fully charged then the power adapter should be unplugged and only plugged in when the battery indicator says to.
The proper charger should also be used, if it's a Dell laptop then only a Dell charger should be used, just because it fits doesn't mean it should be used.

Nice clean rebuild .....

Badly clogged laptop CPU cooling fan. Unfortunately the temperatures reached so high that it actually reflowed some of the solder under the processor....

In my 20+ years of computer repair this by far the worst case of a swollen battery I have ever come across.
The swell actually popped the trackpad out of place and warped the palm rest.

A bloated (swollen) laptop battery is a serious fire hazard caused by gas buildup from deteriorating internal components. Stop using the laptop immediately, disconnect it from power, and do not attempt to puncture or remove the battery yourself. It must be professionally replaced and safely disposed of.

Components swapped from old case to the new on the right. This rig will definitely have breathing room....
