šŸ—“ Saturday, April 5th | 4-5 PM

šŸ• Open to ALL breeds, ages & behaviors!
šŸ• Strengthen your handling skills & bond with your dog.
šŸ• Must maintain proper control—advocate for your dog’s needs & respect others.
šŸ•This is not a time to meet and greet your dog with others
šŸ•Be mindful and provide appropriate space around other dog/handler groups, we have varying reactivity levels for our dog participants
šŸ• One dog per handler recommended—bring a friend if handling more than one!

✨ Special Guest: Jess from Life Happens Breathwork will guide a 10-min session to help us get grounded. Our emotions directly affect our dogs’ behavior—stress, anxiety, and frustration can amplify their reactions. That’s why we incorporate holistic approaches like breathwork into training. Participation is encouraged, but if it’s not for you, we simply ask for mindfulness and respect for those who choose to join in. These exercises aren’t just for dog training—they can benefit your everyday life!

Today everyone in the R+ community and beyond apprcaites Karen Pryor and the wealth of knowledge she has left us with. She was a large part of the push for utilizing positive reinforcement training in the industry.

Born in 1932, she passed away at 92 years old on January 4, 2025.

She wrote many informational books like, "Don't shoot the dog!" and "Clicker training for dogs." She also leaves us with the knowledge to help new trainers become better trainers with her clicker academy.

We appreciate all she's had to offer this world.

Calling all animal lovers!

We are desperately trying to find foster homes for pets in your area and we don't have enough approved PACT fosters. PACT for Animals supports our troops by finding homes for their beloved pets while they are deployed or seeking medical care.

Help us keep pets out of shelters and with their owners by providing long-term foster care. The owner covers all expenses, and all you need to provide is a safe and loving home. Fostering a pet is a truly rewarding experience that can change lives.

If fostering isn't an option for you, please consider following us on social media and sharing posts of pets in need with friends and family. Visit PACTforAnimals.org to view all animals
currently in need.

Join us in making a difference today! https://pactforanimals.org/application/

Service dogs.
Probably one of the most unpopular topics for any pet dog trainer.
And with the recent rise of scammy online courses offering to train your dog to get "service dog level obedience in 2 days" šŸ‘€ this has gotten even worse.
I cannot begin to count the amount of service dog training requests I receive.
ā€œCan your online courses train my dog to be a service dog?ā€
ā€œI need to make my dog a service dog so he can ride on the bus with meā€ (Yes, someone seriously asked me this)
ā€œDo you certify service dogs?ā€
No - no - no - and more no.
Service dog training is completely different from pet dog training.
If your dog is trained to walk nicely on a leash and sit and stay, they are a pet dog.
If your dog comes up to you and nuzzles you when you are sad - they are still a pet dog.
If you want your dog to accompany you into stores or fly in-cabin on planes … they’re still only a pet dog and these privileges are not for them.
Service dogs are task-trained.
They are specifically taught to work for people with disabilities.
A dog that solely provides comfort is not a service dog.
I see a lot of people acquiring dogs, labeling them as ā€œmy service dogā€ and *then* going about training them.
This is not how that works.
You cannot just select a dog, put a service dog harness on them and figure the rest out as you go.
We regularly receive requests from dog owners who tell us that their ā€œservice dogā€ pulled them over on leash or nips at visitors.
That their service dog relentlessly chases wildlife on walks or has intense anxiety in social settings.
One time I got a request from a lady who told me that she got a dog from the shelter to be her son’s service dog, but that ā€œservice dogā€ was now biting the son and could I please fix it.
I’m sorry - none of those dogs are not service dogs then. And they likely won’t be service dogs in the future either.
Please be honest about the dog you own.
Unless you worked diligently to train them as a service animal with specific tasks, they are a pet.
A beloved, (hopefully) well-behaved, wonderful pet.
But not a working dog, and you should not demand the privileges that are reserved for true service dogs and their disabled handlers.
Staying clear with this distinction protects the actual service dogs and their owners šŸ™‚
