After the sudden loss of our sweet Muffin at only 1.5 years, I want to highlight the importance of checking your males for Vesical Proteinaceous Plugs!! Sick, aging (1.5y+), and/or males with a lack of flexibility or energy are less likely to be able to clean themselves properly. This can lead to a deadly infection due to their inability to urinate. When present, the owner must check for them daily and assist in removal when present.

First time rat owners sometimes can't decide between males or females. They might be afraid that male rats stink (not really true) or that female rats don't live as long (also not really true).

This graphic might help you come to a decision! Every rat's personality is different, adopting from a good source sometimes matters more than the gender you choose. Message us if you need help finding a reputable rescue or ethical breeder near you.

What gender rats do you prefer, and why? Maybe your experience will help someone out🤝

Lesser known services we provide🐀:
- Rescue services
- Humane euthanasia
- Custom rat/mouse cages and carriers
- Rat starter kits with/without cages

Rescue services:
Accepting surrenders of rats or mice from any source for rehabilitation, basic first aid, rehome when possible. This eases the load on rescues and shelters as I have a longstanding wait-list awaiting to bring new pets home. Partnering with Joyceful Rattery (CT) with this service in case MA/RI are too far for you.

Humane euthanasia:
Recognizing the rising cost of veterinary care, we offer this service as a no-cost to previous adopters, or low-cost to non-adopters to support families with the passing of their beloved furry friends. Paw prints and nose prints available if requested after.

Custom cages/carriers:
Need a hospital cage? Introduction cage? Bigger carrier for road trips? Or just a middle step in the carrier introduction method? We can make you a custom bin cage of any size, filling with enrichment if needed. With multiple large windows replaced with mesh for adequate ventilation.

Rat starter kit:
50 gallon bin cage big enough for up to 4 rats with one of each enrichment item from our store. All you need is rats!

Other items not on our Etsy:
Isopods
Quail eggs
Live Mealworms
Consultations (30 min)

Rattery update:
I am back from my 2 week military orders, Etsy shop has opened back up and I've begun pairing animals for fall!
All females from August litter are picked up, I have a couple baby males left and also adult males being returned in a week available. Will do another temperament test on the babies and reach out to the next applicant for male wait-list if they're adoptable. Any interest in the adults lmk asap.
Since I don't have any pregnant animals this second, the next round of reservations can be expected mid-october.
This week my prices will increase to 70 for all rats as I prepare to close wait-list January 1. Get your applications in by the 25th of August to lock in 50 per standard. Closing my waitlist is just a way for me to make sure I help everyone locally in case I end up moving next July.
My wait list is between 4 to 6 months, so closing in January can ensure everyone who applies gets rats by July.
There's a chance I can stay locally, but being in the military, I'm not sure of anything. Etsy will always be available with worldwide shipping so no worries there.
I most likely will pick back up rat breeding once I know where I live next year, but will not utilize a waitlist. I'm going to scale way back even more and only breed for myself, posting available babies as I have them for first come first serve status. I will be focusing on raising rabbits and quail from then on. So I'll still have rats, but that won't be my priority.
Thank you all for the support so far! I will keep everyone updated as for where the tides take me. I have 5 years left in the military!

Which rat baby caught your 👀

Sneak peak at reservations! Babies all passed their first temperament testing and will be adoptable if they pass their second test by August 7. I will be out of state August 8-22 making rat deliveries in New York then New Jersey August 8-9. Reservations for this younger litter will begin in the next week or so for those approved and on the waitlist. Some are dwarf for those who have been waiting.

I will be scaling back dwarf breeding and will defer anyone who wants them to go to nearby breeders, they are not easy to breed and are not a good allocation of my resources.

I will in general be scaling back all breeding operations slowly until I close my wait-list in December. I will help everyone who applies up until December as I won't be deciding my future until July 2027. I will still have rats and will sometimes breed to upkeep my mischief, the scale and usage of a waitlist are not decided. My wait-list is sitting at 3-6 months for those interesting in adopting from me before I possibly leave New England.

💡 More tips:
-Males need to be checked daily for pe**le plugs!
-Fabric with grip such as washable p*e pads, anti pill fleece, or washable carpets are recommended for those who have mobility issues. Just make sure to replace daily for sanitation.

*The newspaper in the video is just in the feeding/watering section of her cage for easy cleanup, she has a 6 sq ft washable rug in her sleeping area. I also meant to post this while she was still with us, but she passed last night 🌈 🌉

Things you can do to reduce the risk of tumors in rats! Tumors can either be caused by genetics or their environment. Be mindful of:
•Where you get your rats from
•What you feed them
•Their natural circadian rhythm, ensuring:
- night time is completely dark
- not waking them outside of dawn/dusk

Baby rat and wait-list update! We have 4 litters right now🎊

Oldest litter has 13 babies, I will be keeping 2, and they are ready 14July. I have 2 dwarf litters with a chance for dwarves between 10 babies. Chai had her final litter with our famous Flapjack, but this line is still closed as I just got the genes from another breeder last winter ❄️

I will be emailing our oldest applicants on wait-list in the next couple days to prepare for reservations for our mid-July litter. The dwarf mama's babies will be available late July/early August.

Those of you waiting for transport I will be making my way to NY then NJ for the later July/August litter! 🚗

Older litter is pure Moomoo line, dwarves are cafe line❤️ Have not decided what to do with space line until my test breeding for longevity shows data on the best health outcomes.

Maintaining 3 lines is extremely difficult for me and will need to cut back by the time I possibly move next year. The future of the Rattery is unknown after that, I'm honestly exhausted from rat breeding and am going to try rabbit breeding after this endeavor for a bit! Wait-list will stay open until January 1 to ensure I help everyone on the list.
