Living with cats is not a problem for kids with asthma according to an article in Frontiers in Allergy:

Cats don’t appear to influence children’s asthma.

Kids living with cats had similar asthma severity and lung function as kids in cat-free homes.

They also were about as likely to suffer asthma attacks.
