Yesterday, Thalia parked her car and got out to hear a meowing coming from somewhere? She thought she was hearing things?? The cries persisted and so did Thalia. She looked up in the oak tree next to her car, only to find a small black kitten in the top of the tree. Who knows how long this kitten had been up there. Thalia called the Marion Fire Department, and they gave her my number to try.
We spoke on the phone, and I recommended calling Homeless to Home Animal Rescue & Cat Sanctuary whom I rescued a treed cat for on my birthday in 2015.
Homeless to Home agreed to take this cat if I were able to get the poor kitten out of the tree.

I am often asked “How long can a cat survive in a tree”? The answer :“It depends on a lot of factors” –The cat’s health, weather conditions -extreme heat/cold are bad, rainfall is good. and I think the tenacity of the cat also plays a role in this fight for survival.
This cat named Loki spent 18 days in the tip top of this spruce tree. Early on, climbers tried to reach him but were unable. It was sketchy up there but there are precautions that can keep a possible breakout from equaling a fall to the ground.

Loki was tenacious for survival but frightened into freeze mode. Cats can be super resilient creatures when they are in peak health and Loki is a testament to that.

An update on Dave’s cats
We are nearly halfway with the spay/neuter process -all 4 of the females have been spayed, vaccinated and vetted. The 5 males will be treated in the coming weeks.
Dave has new litter boxes, a litter and food subscription, and electric bills are being covered, Thanks to the outpouring of support from all who donated, and to CDC for helping with this endeavor to bring relief to Dave and his family.
