🐾How do I read an OFA number?

Example: LR-100E24M-C-PI

LR = Breed code (Labrador Retriever in this case)
100 = Numerical ID given to each animal within a breed (in this example, it would be the 100th Labrador to be given a number)
E = Phenotypic OFA evaluation (E = Excellent, G = Good, F = Fair)
24 = Age (in months when testing was done)
M = S*x (This example = male)
C = Restraint type (C = Chemical, P = Physical Restraint, U = Type not provided)
PI = Identification: PI = Permanently identified (form of tattoo or microchip); if the attending veterinarian verifies permanent ID, VPI suffix is added; if no permanent ID, NOPI suffix is added.

The Belgian Laekenois is an intelligent, watchful breed, recognizable by its wiry and curly double coat. One of four Belgian herding breeds, the Laekenois is known for its protective nature and loyalty. In World Wars I and II, they served as messenger dogs, exemplifying this breed’s versatility and drive.
Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the American Belgian Laekenois Association, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- Hip Dysplasia
- Elbow Dysplasia
- ACVO Eye Exam
Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria. However, additional testing that is relevant to the breed is always encouraged.

Are you looking for DNA based disease tests for your dogs?
The OFA has a variety of DNA tests available for order that allow owners to safely collect DNA samples at home. Samples are then sent to the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where the samples will be processed by the Small Animal Molecular Genetics Lab. Results will be forwarded to the OFA, and the OFA will issue the resulting report to the owner.

Additional tests can be found through other labs, such as UC Davis, Embark, PawPrints, GenSol, AKC DNA+Health, Mars Optimal Selection, etc.

The Australian Terrier, known for its confidence and lively nature, was bred to control rodents and be a companion in rough terrain. It was the first ever Australian-bred dog to be recognized and shown in Australia, and today it proves to be an excellent family member.
Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the Australian Terrier Club of America, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- ACVO Eye Exam
-Patellar luxation
-Autoimmune Thyroiditis
Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers.
