Today, we’re celebrating what can happen when one compassionate person refuses to look away. ❤️🐾🐈

Officer Robert Spears of Dayton, KY stepped in to help a gentleman who had become overwhelmed caring for more than 40 cats, both inside and outside his home. The gentleman resisted Animal Control's efforts to help because he feared his cats would simply be taken away.

Officer Spears took a different approach: he earned his trust.

Now, many of those cats are being spayed/neutered and vaccinated at UCAN at no cost. The unsocial cats are being released back outside the home and, after taking time to build trust, the gentleman eventually agreed to allow some of the adoptable cats the chance to find new families. He will now be able to keep a more manageable number of cats so they will get better care—and Officer Spears is even fostering four kittens himself!

This is compassion in action. And it’s also prevention.

Because these cats are being sterilized, this situation ends with these 40+ cats instead of becoming hundreds more. That means fewer kittens born outdoors, fewer cats entering shelters, and fewer animals suffering because there simply aren’t enough homes.

UCAN Nonprofit Spay/Neuter Clinic performs approximately one thousand spay/neuter surgeries per month. They are booked out until the end of the year. That means 4,000 people are already booked and so many waiting. These appointments are like winning the golden ticket from W***y Wonka.

A very happy FOURTEEN year anniversary to Donna!! She actually tried to retire once, but ended up coming back part-time shortly thereafter because she just couldn't stay away from all the amazing animals we help and the positive impact we make in the community! She helps with marketing and fundraising and we are so grateful for all the work she does for us and the animals!! 🐾❤😁

Grant County cat owners - free spay/neuter surgery!!

There are still a few slots left for males and females. Let's get all those free kittens signed up for a free spay/neuter clinic. It's imperative that the community do their part to help control pet population.

Alright folks they are coming back! You have two weeks to get your cats scheduled! This is how we continue to save lives but being responsible and spaying and neutering your cats. Thank you for being responsible.

The Kentucky Humane Society's CARE-a-van is bringing FREE cat spay/neuter surgeries to Grant County residents on Tuesday, Sept 1st at the Grant County - Oaks Grove Building.

Appointments are required and can be made at https://www.kyhumane.org/services/khs-care-a-van/ . Look for the Grant County - Oaks Grove Building Location. Spaces are limited and if that location does not show up in your search, then all slots are full.

There is a $25 deposit per cat that will be refunded when you attend your appointment. You can sign up multiple cats but you must make an appointment and pay the deposit for each cat.
