Today, we’re celebrating what can happen when one compassionate person refuses to look away. ❤️🐾🐈
Officer Robert Spears of Dayton, KY stepped in to help a gentleman who had become overwhelmed caring for more than 40 cats, both inside and outside his home. The gentleman resisted Animal Control's efforts to help because he feared his cats would simply be taken away.
Officer Spears took a different approach: he earned his trust.
Now, many of those cats are being spayed/neutered and vaccinated at UCAN at no cost. The unsocial cats are being released back outside the home and, after taking time to build trust, the gentleman eventually agreed to allow some of the adoptable cats the chance to find new families. He will now be able to keep a more manageable number of cats so they will get better care—and Officer Spears is even fostering four kittens himself!
This is compassion in action. And it’s also prevention.
Because these cats are being sterilized, this situation ends with these 40+ cats instead of becoming hundreds more. That means fewer kittens born outdoors, fewer cats entering shelters, and fewer animals suffering because there simply aren’t enough homes.
And here’s the important part: our donors make this possible. Your gifts allow UCAN to say “yes” when people like Officer Spears step up to solve a problem before it becomes an even bigger one.
❤️ Please donate today (ucancincinnati.org/how-to-help/donate) so we can keep providing free spay/neuter services for cats & dogs who need us most. Every surgery prevents future litters—and brings us one step closer to a community where no healthy cat or dog dies in a shelter simply because there are too many.
Thank you, Officer Spears, for showing just how much difference one determined, compassionate person can make. And thank YOU to everyone who gives so that we can be there when help is needed. 🐾 https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1EtNjFKwQK/
