Tulip is only having 2 this time and if there's a female born, she'll stay with me. She's bred to a friend's cream that has produced several Champions and also comes from Champions. Both parents are smaller. Tulip 7 - 7.5 lbs. & Toby 9 lbs. She's due this week. Tulip is the sweetest loving girl ever and so is Toby so they'll definitely have little lap babies! Stay tuned!

❤️MUST READ FOR BREEDERS A Cold Stomach is a Tomb. Never Feed a Cold Baby. 🌡️🍼

It is the most common mistake made by well-meaning rescuers. You find a cold, abandoned kitten or puppy. Your instinct screams: "It's hungry! Feed it!" Stop. If you feed a hypothermic animal, you are likely killing it. In the US veterinary world, this is the #1 rule of neonate rescue.

🛑 1. The Enzyme Shutdown Digestion is a heat-dependent chemical reaction. A puppy's digestive enzymes work at 98°F-100°F. If its body temp drops below 94°F, the gut shuts down (Ileus). Peristalsis stops. The stomach becomes a sealed bag.

🤢 2. The Fermentation Bomb If you pour milk into a cold stomach, it doesn't digest. It rots. The milk sits there and begins to ferment. Bacteria multiply, producing gas and toxins. The stomach bloats, crushing the lungs and poisoning the blood (septicemia). The animal dies of "Bloat" or toxicity, while feeling full. It is a slow, painful death caused by the food meant to save it.

🔥 3. The Protocol: Heat FIRST, Food LATER Your only job is Thermoregulation. Ignore the crying for food.

Warm the animal slowly (heating pad, next to your skin) until it reaches at least 98°F.

Check the gums (they should be pink and warm, not grey and cold).

Only then can you offer warm formula. A hungry warm baby will survive. A fed cold baby will die.

The Mantra: "If it's cold, the stomach is closed."

📌 QUICK FAQ
Q: How do I know if they are warm enough? R: Re**al Thermometer. 🌡️ It is the only accurate way. If you don't have one, feel the inside of their mouth with your finger. If it feels cold to the touch (colder than your finger), do NOT feed. It must feel like the inside of a warm human cheek.

Q: What if they are dehydrated? R: Sugar water on gums. 💧 If they are crashing, rub a little Karo syrup or sugar water on their gums (it absorbs through the mucus membranes) to keep blood sugar up while you warm them. But do not put liquid down the throat until they are warm.

PUP CUP INFO

I personally don't give my dogs pup cups but if I did, this is something that would never have crossed my mind 😯

Please read 🙏

I’d like to share something other may not know is a huge risk to our fur babies. This handsome boy is my best friends doxie, one of the puppies from my breeding pair. He is currently in critical condition at the emergency vet after having a pup cup from Dairy Queen. I’ve always given my doxies the occasional pup cup from coffee shops or Dairy Queen with no issues. Lots of people do. It’s not something that breeders warn people about. It’s not something talked about in normal vet clinics or even in dog cpr and first aide training which is the main reason I’m sharing here. The emergency vets acted as if this is a common medical emergency seen in emergency vet medicine for dachshunds. Because of the shape of their heads it is very difficult for them to lick the whip cream or ice cream out of the bottom of this little cups without getting it up in their noses. He inhaled it into both lungs and with in min of having the pup cup he started breathing funny and not moving and wrenching like he was trying to vomit. He has spent the night at the emergency vet in an oxygen chamber and has had to have iv fluids and antibiotics. His vet bill is currently close to $8,000 and thank God his owners have pet insurance for him! If your going to give your fur babies pup cups plz conscider asking for them on a lid instead of in a cup and plz consider sharing the risk with other doxie parents you know.
