Let’s give another big Country Pup Parlor welcome to this big, handsome boy!

This sweet guy came in for a good bath, a thorough de-shedding, and a little trimming and tidying up! He’s now feeling fresh and clean, looking handsome, and sporting a much lighter, softer, and fluffier coat!

And of course, we couldn’t send him home without a cute Halloween bandana to finish off his look! 🎃

Just look at that happy face! I think he’s pretty pleased with his spa day! 🧡

Let’s Talk About Ear Care!

Did you know that proper ear care is an important part of your dog’s grooming routine? And it’s about much more than just making them look pretty!

These are two examples of before-and-after pictures of two different Poodles ears that I’ve groomed .

Poodles, Doodles, and certain other breeds can grow quite a bit of hair down inside their ear canals. Over time, that hair can become thick, tangled, and packed with wax and debris. It can also trap moisture, creating conditions that may contribute to ear infections.

Proper ear maintenance can help prevent some ear problems and infections, especially when excessive hair and debris are contributing factors.

Having spent many years grooming in veterinary medicine, I’ve seen firsthand just how bad neglected ears can become. I’ve seen dogs with so much impacted hair and debris that they required veterinary treatment, sometimes even sedation, to get everything cleaned out.

That’s why ear care is included in EVERY groom here at Country Pup Parlor! ❤️

I check the ears, clean them as needed, and remove excess hair when appropriate. Not every dog needs ear plucking, but some dogs benefit from having excessive or impacted hair carefully removed.

And here’s something else I want to mention:

I do NOT charge extra for ear cleaning or appropriate ear hair removal!

I consider ear care an important part of grooming, not an optional add-on. Just like nail trimming, it’s part of taking care of the whole dog!

Of course, if I see something that concerns me or feel that an ear needs medical attention, I’ll always recommend seeing your veterinarian.

A good groom is about so much more than a cute haircut, a pretty bow, and smelling wonderful. It’s about helping keep your dog healthy, clean, and comfortable from nose to tail!

A little fall hello from Country Pup Parlor!

You may have noticed I haven’t been posting quite as many pictures of all the adorable pups coming through the shop lately. Life has just been a little lifey 🥲 We’ve had a couple of losses in the family, and sometimes life just needs a little more of your attention.

But behind the scenes, it’s been business as usual at Country Pup Parlor! Lots of baths, haircuts, wagging tails, and adorable faces! I just haven’t been quite as good about sharing them all with you!

Fall is here, and it’s a great time to get those pups freshened up! Between shedding season, keeping coats healthy, and getting ready for the upcoming holidays, there’s no better time for a spa day!

I’m continuing to welcome new clients and offer the same quiet, one-on-one grooming experience that makes Country Pup Parlor a little different. Just your pup and me, with plenty of individual attention and care. ❤️

And don’t forget to plan ahead for your grooming appointments! October is almost completely booked, and November is already filling up with quite a few appointments on the calendar! With the holidays right around the corner, those spots will go quickly!

Unfortunately, I need to address the flea situation again.

First and foremost — no judgment! Fleas happen, especially this time of year. I can absolutely still groom a dog that has fleas, and I’m always happy to talk with you about options for getting rid of them.

I just need to know BEFORE your appointment.

This is the second time in the past several weeks that I’ve had to cancel an entire afternoon of appointments after discovering fleas on a dog. This inconveniences my other clients — some of whom drive quite a distance to bring their dogs to me — and it also means losing the remainder of my workday.

Even though I usually only have one dog in my shop at a time, I cannot risk the next dog coming in and potentially picking up fleas.

When I have a dog with fleas in the shop, there is a specific cleaning process I have to follow. The flea treatment I use in the shop cannot be sprayed while dogs are present. I have to treat the shop after everyone has gone home, allow it to sit and air out overnight, and then come back the next day to thoroughly sweep, mop and clean everything before bringing another dog in.

This is why dogs with fleas simply need to be scheduled as my last appointment of the day. I can still take care of your pup — I just need that heads-up so I can schedule appropriately.

Going forward, I will also be checking dogs at drop-off if I have any reason to suspect fleas. If fleas are found at that time and I was not notified beforehand, unfortunately your dog will need to go home and the appointment will need to be rescheduled for an appropriate end-of-day time.

I truly hate having to make a policy like this, but I have to protect every dog that comes through my shop and be considerate of everyone else’s scheduled appointments.

Please, if you know or even suspect your dog may have fleas, just send me a message before you come. There is absolutely no embarrassment and no judgment. We can work with it! I just need the opportunity to plan for it. ❤️
