Did you know your cat’s litter box habits can give you important clues about their health? A clean, comfortable litter box doesn’t just make your home smell better—it can also help encourage normal urination and may reduce stress-related urinary issues. 💙

Here are some tips to keep your cat’s litter box routine healthy:

✨ Scoop daily — Cats are naturally clean animals and may avoid a dirty box, which can lead to stress and holding their urine longer than they should.

✨ Change litter regularly — Completely emptying, cleaning, and refreshing the litter box helps prevent odor, bacteria buildup, and an uninviting bathroom space.

✨ Have enough litter boxes — A good rule of thumb is one litter box per cat, plus one extra. Multiple boxes placed throughout the home give your cat options and help reduce competition or stress.

✨ Choose the right location — Place boxes in quiet, easily accessible areas where your cat feels safe using them.

🚩 Keep an eye out for urinary warning signs:
• Frequent trips to the litter box
• Straining or difficulty urinating
• Urinating outside the litter box
• Blood in the urine
• Excessive licking of the ge***al area
• Crying or signs of discomfort while urinating

Urinary problems can become serious quickly, especially in cats. If you notice changes in your cat’s litter box habits, don’t wait—contact your veterinary team for advice. 🐾

A little extra attention to their litter box can go a long way in keeping your feline friend comfortable and healthy! 💙

🎒🐾 Back to School: Don’t Forget Your Furry Family Members! 🐾🎒

As backpacks are packed, school supplies are bought, and routines start to change, our pets notice those changes too! 🐶🐱

For many pets, the return to school means more quiet time at home after a summer full of activity and attention. Here are a few tips to help your pets adjust:

🏡 Ease into the new routine
Start practicing your school-day schedule before the first day to help your pet adjust to longer periods alone.

🧸 Keep them mentally stimulated
Puzzle toys, enrichment activities, and safe chew options can help keep boredom at bay.

🚶 Make time for exercise and attention
A walk, play session, or extra snuggles before or after school can help your pet feel loved and secure.

🎒 Be mindful of school supplies and snacks
Keep backpacks, lunch boxes, medications, and art supplies out of reach. Many common items can be harmful if ingested!

💙 Watch for signs of stress
Changes in appetite, bathroom habits, excessive barking, destructive behavior, or hiding may be signs your pet is struggling with the transition.

And remember—our pets love being part of the family routine! A little preparation can help make back-to-school season a smooth transition for everyone. 🐾

Wishing all of our students (and their pets!) a happy, healthy, and successful school year! 📚✨

Did you know that a microchip is only as good as the information attached to it?

Tomorrow is National Check the Chip Day, the perfect reminder to make sure your pet's microchip registration is up to date. If you've recently moved, changed your phone number, or have a new emergency contact, now is the time to update your pet's information.

A few minutes today could make all the difference if your pet ever becomes lost.

✔️ Verify your contact information with your microchip company.
✔️ Not sure if your pet is microchipped? We can scan them during your next visit—or stop by, and we'd be happy to check!
✔️ If your pet isn't microchipped yet, ask us about this quick, safe, and permanent form of identification.

Collars and tags can fall off, but a microchip stays with your pet for life—helping reunite lost pets with the families who love them.

❤️ At Indian Creek Veterinary Hospital, we're committed to keeping pets safe, healthy, and home where they belong.

08/11/2026

Ear infections are one of the most common reasons pets visit the veterinarian, and many can be uncomfortable or even painful for our furry friends. The good news? Regular ear care can help keep your pet’s ears healthy! 💙

👂 Tips for keeping your pet’s ears clean and comfortable:
✅ Check ears regularly for redness, swelling, odor, or excess wax
✅ Keep ears free of debris, dirt, and excessive hair that can trap moisture and bacteria
✅ Clean your pet’s ears as recommended by your veterinary team using an appropriate ear cleaner
✅ Always dry ears after baths, swimming, or water play—moisture left behind can create the perfect environment for infection
✅ Avoid using cotton swabs deep in the ear canal, which can push debris further inside

🚩 Signs your pet may have an ear infection:
• Head shaking or frequent scratching at the ears
• Red, irritated, or swollen ear canals
• Bad odor coming from the ears
• Dark discharge, wax buildup, or debris
• Sensitivity or pain when ears are touched
• Tilting the head or changes in balance

Some pets are more prone to ear infections due to allergies, ear anatomy, or underlying skin conditions. If your pet is showing signs of discomfort, schedule an exam so we can determine the cause and get those ears feeling better. 🐶🐱

A few minutes of routine ear care can help prevent a lot of discomfort later! 💙
