🐾 LOST PETS DON’T PLAN TO GET LOST — A FEW SIMPLE STEPS CAN HELP THEM FIND THEIR WAY HOME! 🏡❤️
Every day, animal shelters receive beloved pets who have wandered away from home. An open gate, a frightened escape during a storm, a loose collar, or a door left open for just a few seconds can be all it takes. The good news? You can greatly improve your pet’s chances of getting home quickly.
Help protect your four-legged family members by keeping identification current. Microchip your pets and make sure the registration includes your current phone number and address. Keep a secure collar with an identification tag on your pet, regularly inspect fences and gates, use a leash when away from home, and have a plan for pets who become frightened by fireworks, thunderstorms, construction, or other loud noises. Keep a current, clear photo of your pet, too—you’ll be glad you have it if your pet ever goes missing.
🔎 If your pet becomes lost: Begin searching immediately. Check your neighborhood, speak with neighbors, post clear photos to local lost-and-found pet groups, contact nearby shelters, and check shelter listings frequently. Don't assume someone will automatically know how to reach you—even a microchip only works when the registration information is accurate.
❤️ And while you're checking the shelter for a lost pet, take a moment to look at the animals still waiting for someone to find them.
Some arrived as strays and were never reclaimed. Others lost their homes through circumstances completely beyond their control. They may not have someone searching for them anymore—but they're still waiting to belong to someone.
