A little September housekeeping before we head into the month!

We will continue closing at noon on Fridays.

We will also be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day, as well as Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11.

One new thing we are trying this month: Dr. Taylor will be out of the office on Monday, September 14, and we will have a relief veterinarian here seeing appointments in her place.

This is not a permanent change, and Dr. Taylor is not going anywhere. We are simply trying out the use of a relief veterinarian as another option for the future; either working alongside Dr. Taylor on especially busy days or helping us keep appointments available when she needs to be away from the clinic.

Our regular Three Oaks team will still be here, and the relief veterinarian will have access to your pet’s medical history and records. We will be scheduling our usual appointments that day for clients who are comfortable seeing a new veterinarian.

We are hopeful this will give us another way to maintain continuity of care, improve appointment availability, and continue supporting both our patients and our team.

🇺🇸 A few Labor Day pet reminders: Please be mindful of open doors and gates when guests are coming and going, avoid feeding fatty table foods or bones, keep pets away from grills and alcohol, and provide a quiet space for pets who are sensitive to noise or extra activity.

Office Closure - Friday, August 14

Three Oaks Veterinary Wellness Center will be closed all day this Friday, August 14. We will reopen with normal hours on Monday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

If your pet needs medical care during business hours while we are closed, please contact one of our local veterinary clinics, including Animal Medical Center of Brooksville, All County Animal Hospital, APEX Animal Care, or Brooksville Veterinary Clinic.

For urgent or emergency care after hours, please contact Animal Emergency of Hernando, Animal Urgent Care of Hernando County, BluePearl Pet Hospital, or EPIC Specialty & Emergency.

A quick reminder that Three Oaks Veterinary Wellness Center will continue closing at 12:00 PM every Friday.

This adjusted Friday schedule allows our team time to complete important behind-the-scenes work, including patient follow-ups, medical records, inventory, training, and other tasks that help us provide the best possible care throughout the week. It also gives our hardworking team a little additional time to rest and recharge.

Please plan ahead for Friday medication refills, prescription food pickups, appointment requests, and any other time-sensitive needs. Whenever possible, we recommend contacting us earlier in the week so we have plenty of time to assist you.

Our regular Monday through Thursday hours remain unchanged. We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support of our small, one-doctor practice and the team members who care for your pets.

Happy Fourth of July week from all of us at Three Oaks Veterinary Wellness Center!

Red, white, and BOOM season is here, and while they may be fun for us, they can be incredibly stressful for pets.

A few Fourth of July pet safety reminders:

Keep pets indoors during fireworks, even if they normally do well outside.

Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date.

Take dogs out earlier in the day before the noise starts.

Create a quiet, comfortable space with familiar bedding, background noise, and limited access to doors.

Do not bring pets to fireworks displays.

If your pet has a history of storm or fireworks anxiety, please do not wait until the last minute to request medication. Some medications require a current exam, bloodwork, or doctor approval before they can be safely prescribed, so planning ahead is important.

Reminder: We will be closing at 12:00 PM this Friday as part of our July trial schedule. If your pet needs anxiety medication, food, or prescription refills before the weekend, please contact us as soon as possible so we have time to review and prepare everything.

Friday Hours Update

Beginning Friday July 3rd, we will be closing at 12:00 PM on Fridays.

As a small, one-doctor practice, we are always trying to balance patient care, staff wellbeing, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the clinic running smoothly. This trial schedule will give our team a little more dedicated time each week to catch up, reset, and continue providing the level of care we expect from ourselves.

Our Monday through Thursday hours will remain the same, and we’ll keep everyone updated as we see how this works for our team, our patients, and our clients.

For pets needing care after we close on Fridays, Animal Urgent Care of Hernando County opens at 3:00 PM, and Animal Emergency of Hernando opens at 5:00 PM.

During regular business hours, please reach out to one of the several excellent local veterinary clinics available in our area, including Animal Medical Center, All County Animal Hospital, or APEX Animal Care.

PLEASE DON’T FAWN-NAP THE FAWNS

A fawn lying quietly by itself is usually not abandoned, sick, or waiting for someone to rescue it. It is in camouflage mode.
During the first few weeks of life, a mother deer deliberately hides her fawn and moves away to eat. This helps prevent her scent and activity from leading predators directly to the baby. The fawn’s job is to lie flat, remain quiet, and stay completely still even when someone approaches.

That means a quiet fawn in the grass is not asking for a ride.
Before touching, feeding, moving, loading, or transporting a wild fawn, STOP and call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Do not bring a fawn to our clinic without first receiving instructions from FWC or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

A fawn that is probably hiding normally may:
• Be lying quietly on its belly
• Remain motionless when approached
• Be alone for several hours
• Have bright, alert eyes
• Have no visible wounds or other signs of illness

A fawn may need professional help if:
• Its mother is confirmed dead nearby
• It has been struck by a vehicle or attacked by a dog
• It is bleeding, has an obvious broken limb, or has open wounds
• Flies, fly eggs, or maggots are present
• It has diarrhea or heavily soiled fur
• It appears extremely weak, thin, cold, collapsed, or unable to stand
• It is lying stretched out flat on its side
• It is wandering, following people, or crying continuously
• Its eyes appear dull or sunken and its coat appears rough or unkempt

Curled or crinkled ear tips can sometimes accompany dehydration, but ear shape alone does not prove that a fawn has been abandoned. Some healthy fawns naturally have curled ears. Look at the entire animal and call an expert before acting.

Handling wildlife also carries risks for people and pets. Wild deer may carry ticks and other parasites, and frightened or injured animals can bite, kick, or struggle. Removing a healthy fawn can interrupt nursing, separate it from its mother, expose it to severe stress, and interfere with the natural behavior it needs to survive in the wild. Improper feeding can also cause serious illness or death.

Your presence may prevent the mother from returning, so keep children and pets away, note the exact location, take photographs from a distance if needed, and quietly leave the area.

Please call before transporting any animal.

Good intentions do not always equal good outcomes. Sometimes the kindest and safest rescue is to leave the fawn exactly where its mother left it.
