Under the ada, service dogs are task trained to assist with a persons disability.

These are NOT reasons to train your dog to be a service dog….

❌ you don’t have to pay for a dog sitter while traveling

❌ accessories to bring with you to the grocery store cause you feel bad crating them

❌ robots who are here to serve you no matter what. Meaning making them do things that are unsafe (like a 30lb dog bracing)

Training a service dog is…

A LOT of work and can take 2 years depending on where you’re starting

Not a last minute spur of the moment decisions

Possible if your dog has the appropriate temperament (going back to dogs aren’t robots) 🤖

I’ve been dog training for over a decade now (well technically…but I started training full time in 2019), and the phrases that make me wince most are STILL super common🙈

Meaning us trainers still need to keep educating.

Other trainers who are still reading: what’s the red flag phrase that makes you wince the most? Would love to hear what other outdated things you’re still hearing 😣
