Fostering through our Pets in Crisis Support Program is special because you’re not only helping a pet, you’re helping their person, too. Our foster families provide a safe and loving temporary home for pets while their owners navigate a difficult time, giving them peace of mind knowing their pet is cared for.

Consider this your official invitation to become part of the cat social scene. And yes, there’s a lot more to it than cuddling kittens (although that is a great perk!). 🐱

Our cat volunteers help with enrichment, grooming, socialization, cleaning, and keeping their spaces comfortable. They can spend time helping shy cats build confidence, get to know different personalities, and help adopters find the cat who is right for them.

What kind of dog volunteer would you be?

The one who’s always up for a long walk?
The bath-time specialist?
The enrichment expert with treats at the ready?
Maybe you’d rather work on training, help keep kennels clean and comfortable, or introduce adopters to the dog they’ve been waiting for.

At Atlanta Humane, you can choose how you want to spend your volunteer time. Pick your favorite way to help (or try them all 👀). There are plenty of ways to make it count your time for the dogs in our care.

Back in April, we introduced you to Darla, a 3-month-old puppy who was struggling just to stand.

Both of her front legs had been damaged, making every step difficult. We didn’t know exactly what had happened to her, but we knew what she needed next: specialists, physical therapy, custom braces, and plenty of support as she grew.

Over the months that followed, Darla began weekly therapy, including water treadmill sessions, while working every day to build strength and stabilize her joints.

And now, Darla has been adopted. ❤️

She still has growing and strengthening ahead of her, but now she gets to do it all with a family of her own by her side. Thank you to everyone who supported Darla and helped give her the chance to keep moving forward.

We’re so grateful to VCA Charities for awarding Atlanta Humane a $10,000 grant to support the Adoption Readiness Obedience Project! Through the program, 179 dogs in our care received additional training, enrichment, and time outside of their kennels while they waited for new homes.

Thank you, VCA Charities, for helping us create more opportunities for the dogs in our care to learn, engage, and thrive! ❤️
