Directions Website Contact the business

A specialist sanctuary supporting guinea pigs with extra needs - primarily dental. Registered Charity Debbie Postles - Director. Emma-Jane Hartley - Director.

Andrew Hartley - Trustee. Catherine Wholey - Trustee. Emma Gordon - Trustee. Jennifer Cox - Trustee. Steve Turner - Trustee/Charity Treasurer. The Excellent Adventure Sanctuary enables guinea pigs who have ongoing medical issues to live a normal, happy life, whilst they receive the veterinary care they need. The Sanctuary specialises in the management of dental issues and the results achieved have been amazing! All veterinary treatment is carried out by Simon and Kim Maddock of the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic, Northampton. However, to enable this service to be offered to even more piggies with extra needs, funds need to be raised. Places at the Sanctuary can be offered on a short term, long term or permanent basis and the programme of supportive care is individually tailored to each piggy's needs.

Minnie has had her op and is awake and eating, so all good so far! I’ll be collecting her and Blitzen about 6 pm so will update later, once they’re home!

Please keep Minnie in your thoughts today. She’s at the vets with her friend, Blitzen. Minnie has suspected pyometra and is likely to need to be spayed. As you can see she’s tiny and also a lethal white piggy, so the surgery could be risky.

I’ll keep you all posted once I hear from Simon.

Some lovely news to share with all, this morning!

Izzie and Poppy welcomed Rudy into their home and in fact seemed to notice he was a little different, so immediately were very caring towards him!

Rudy is a lethal white guinea pig who has no hearing or vision. However, as he’s never had these senses he doesn’t miss them and is a very confident piggy. He does have neurological issues, so can sometimes look a little bit disorientated, as he can struggle to control head movements. He sees Simon every 6 weeks for a tidy up of his teeth, but can eat well and enjoys his food!

Izzie and Poppy have joined the TEAS family, due to Izzie having a bulging eye, that her previous vets suspected could be tooth root related. She was also experiencing some urinary issues.

The first thing Simon noticed was she had a large urethral stone, which he was able to remove using some local anaesthetic! He suspects the eye could be a retrobulbar abscess, but as she’s 5 years old, he’s wanted to try antibiotics first, as enucleation surgery is a big op!

The girls have settled in so well and will hopefully be joined by neutered boar, Rudy, who is a lethal white piggy! Rudy sadly lost his little friend, Cotton Socks, recently and isn’t enjoying living alone!

I’ll pop a pic of the urethral stone in the comments!

Tomorrow!

Such sad news! Huge thanks to all those who had offered to help transport him to us! Sadly it wasn’t meant to be!

Sleep tight, Peanut! 💔

12/10/2026

We need to get this little guy brought to us as soon as possible! Please can anyone offer any help?

Thank you! xx

Another morning feed for Peanut ❤️

I wondered whether anyone can help with transporting Peanut from the rescue base in North Shields to The Excellent Adventure Sanctuary in Northampton so he can get the specialist support and care he needs.

There has been a kind offer of transport from Mansfield/Nottingham to Northampton. So if anyone can help with any part of the journey north of Mansfield/Nottingham that would really help.

If you're travelling that way or think you might be able to help, please send me a PM.

Thank you so much.

8 sleeps to go!

Come along for some spooky fun!

04/10/2026

For anyone in the Northampton area, pop along to Duston Mill Car Boot Sale, this morning. Our amazing volunteer, Karen, is there raising funds for us and also Hartwells Homeless Small Animal Sanctuary too!

Thank you so much Karen!
