A recent Ontario Court of Appeal ruling has implications for everyone who handles a dog…even temporarily

The court clarified that under provincial law, liability for a dog bite or attack extends beyond the registered owner to anyone in possession of the pet at that moment—including professional dog walkers, groomers, and even friends or family on a walk.

This legally makes the handler the "owner" for liability purposes.

I choose to move away from words such as "dominate," "command," or "obey" in my dog training. 🙅‍♀️

Instead, I focus on building a 𝓹𝓪𝓻𝓽𝓷𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓹 with your dog, encouraging them to 𝓮𝓷𝓰𝓪𝓰𝓮 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝔂𝓸𝓾, and teaching 𝓬𝓾𝓮𝓼. My goal is to get your dog on your team!
