Happy RVT Month! 🐶🐱🐰🦜🐍
This week we celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week. In Ontario, October is also RVT month!
We're shining a spotlight on the amazing Registered Veterinary Technicians who help make our hospital a place of healing, comfort, and compassion.
RVTs are there for every step of a pet's journey. They are patient advocates, anesthesia experts, laboratory professionals, caregivers, educators, and compassionate supporters for pets and people alike. Their expertise helps every patient receive exceptional care in our hospital every day.
Please join us in thanking our incredible RVTs for all they do. We are so grateful to have them on our team! ❤️🐾

🐹❤️ Patient Spotlight: Piglet! ❤️🐹

This adorable little guinea pig, Piglet, recently visited Campus Estates Animal Hospital after her owners noticed some blood-tinged urine. She was an absolute superstar during her appointment and stayed perfectly still for her X-rays!
The images revealed that Piglet had urinary sludge in her bladder. Urinary sludge is a build-up of minerals that can irritate the bladder and is a common issue in guinea pigs. Diet can play a significant role in the development of urinary sludge and other lower urinary tract problems, making proper nutrition an important part of prevention and treatment.
The good news? With some medication, supportive care, and a discussion about dietary changes, Piglet is already on the road to recovery! 🌟
We're so proud of this sweet girl and wish her a speedy recovery.

This sweet and very handsome cat, Fudge, came to our emergency service at Campus Estates for inappropriate urination.

Following his exam, we recommended diagnostic testing, including radiographs.
In this image, the green circle outlines his bladder, and the yellow arrow shows urinary stones.
There are several reasons why cats may urinate inappropriately — the link provides more information on possible causes.

Inky, a delightful dog, was admitted to our facility several weeks ago, exhibiting signs of illness following a neuter procedure at his regular veterinary clinic. A battery of diagnostic tests led to the recommendation for additional surgery, which revealed a rare complication from a medication resulting in a stomach ulceration. Surgical intervention involved resection of the affected area and anastomosis. Although Inky's condition improved postoperatively, he subsequently developed impaired gastric emptying, necessitating further surgery. A stricture was identified at the junction between the stomach and small intestine and was corrected through a specialized surgical procedure. After a prolonged hospital stay, involving three surgeries and supportive care, Inky was discharged home with his grateful owner. Our team, having grown fond of Inky, paid tribute to his resilience with a memorable farewell, a truly special moment.
