Happy Thanksgiving Sunday, Brighton! 🦃🍂
It’s October 11th, 2026, if you’re thinking about going for a refreshing autumn stroll today to burn off calories you haven’t even eaten yet, the forecast for Brighton is sitting at a high of 16°C with cloudy skies and light rain moving in this afternoon. ☔️🌧️
Translation, perfect conditions to stay completely indoors, put on your most forgiving stretchy pants by noon and aggressively defend your spot on the couch! 🛋️ 🏆
📜 The Story of Canadian Thanksgiving
(As Told by Someone Who Was Probably Hungry)
While our American friends credit the Pilgrims, pumpkin pie and Plymouth Rock, we Canadians like to do things earlier and with significantly less historical accuracy!
It all started in 1578 with a very stressed English explorer named Martin Frobisher. Martin sailed into the brutal Arctic waters of Nunavut looking for the Northwest Passage, lost a few ships, nearly froze his eyebrows off and finally slammed his boat onto the icy shoreline!🧊⛵️
Exhausted and miraculously un-drowned, Martin gathered his freezing crew and said "Lads, we made it. Break out the salt beef and dried peas!" and right then and there, on a frozen rock in the Arctic the very first Canadian Thanksgiving feast was born! No stuffing. No cranberries. Just a bunch of scurvy adjacent sailors chewing on dried meat and thanking their lucky stars they hadn't been eaten by a polar bear! 🐻❄️🍽️
Fast forward through a few hundred years of chaotic date swapping, at one point Parliament inexplicably scheduled Thanksgiving in November on the exact same weekend as Armistice Day until someone finally raised their hand in 1957 and shouted, "Wait! November in Canada is a frozen tundra! Move it to October before we’re eating turkey in a whiteout!" 🚫❄️
And thus, the second Monday in October became our official national day of competitive overeating! 🎉👏
🏆 The Official Canadian Thanksgiving Olympic Games
To celebrate Martin Frobisher’s brave Arctic survival, we now honour his memory with three sacred, highly athletic family events:
The Gravy Boat Relay:
Passing a scalding hot boat of dark gravy across a packed 10 person table without dousing your sister’s lap or destroying the good tablecloth! 🦃🍂
Tupperware Tetris:
The high stakes engineering challenge of cramming a 20lb turkey carcass, five giant bowls of cold mashed potatoes and three mystery casseroles into a single mini fridge! 🍖🍲
The Post Feast Couch Lock:
Sitting motionless on the sofa, staring blankly at a football game you don't care about and slowly slipping into a turkey and carbs induced coma while your brain forgets your own Wi-Fi password. 📺🛋️

🦃💬It’s The Official Thanksgiving Sunday Comment Section Games!
Since we will all be trapped in food comas this afternoon anyway, let’s play a few rounds right here in the comments!
Game 1:
Invent a Leftover Crime.
If law enforcement caught you committing a felony at 11:00PM involving Thanksgiving leftovers, what would the charge be? (Example: "Aggravated assault with a cold turkey leg while standing half naked in front of the open fridge.")
Game 2:
🎥The Family Dinner Alias.
Describe your family Thanksgiving table using only a fictional movie title. (Example: "Fast & Furious: The Gravy Drift" or "The Walking Dead: Couch Potato Edition".)
Game 3:
🦃Confess Your Turkey Sins.
What is one holiday food atrocity you commit behind closed doors? Do you put cranberry sauce on mac and cheese? Do you eat stuffing straight from the pan with a wooden spoon? Lay it on me!
Now, if you'll excuse me, all 13,000 of us in Brighton are collectively loosening our belt buckles by two notches. May your gravy be lump free, your relatives behave (or at least provide good gossip) and your sweatpants have an elastic band stronger than Martin Frobisher’s willpower!
Happy Thanksgiving, Sunday Everyone! 🥧🛋️🦃🍽️⛵️📺🍂🍖🍞🥦🌽🥖🍅🍴🍠
