Sicario’s sire, Secret, is an outstanding stallion with a breeding record never seen before. Secret is one of the most influential modern dressage breeding stallions in Europe. He is a black stallion by Sezuan and out of Seline (by St. Moritz), combining some of the strongest dressage bloodlines in modern sport horse breeding.

Sicario descends from a highly decorated mare family that has produced many successful FEI horses including multiple Grand Prix competitors in Europe. Also originating from this mare line are dozens of predicated mares including ‘Elite’ mares and multiple licensed stallions including Blue Hors Monte Carlo and the World Young Horse Championship silver medalist, Most Wanted Nero von Bellin. Sicario’s damsire, Rousseau won Silver at the World Young Horse Championships before going on to a hugely successful career as a sire. His most notable offspring include the olympic competitor and super sire Blue Hors Zack and the distinguished stallion Ampere.

Struggling to understand some of the terminology around the biomechanics of the lower limb? Check out our recent blog post! Key take-aways are below:

🦴 Just four bones and three joints do the heavy lifting in the lower limb — and how they're aligned shapes how your horse moves.

💪 The flexor tendons (DDFT, SDFT and suspensory) store energy and power most of your horse's movement — it's why they're so often involved in soft-tissue injuries.

🐎 Every stride has four phases — initial contact, stance, break-over and flight — and how the foot lands can reveal a lot (a toe-first landing isn't always "wrong").

📸 Digital X-rays let us measure foot biomechanics precisely — break-over, hoof–pastern axis, sole depth and palmar angle — then check whether a trim or shoe actually achieved the goal.

🩺 Many conditions — navicular syndrome, ringbone, tendon injuries and laminitis — can be managed by changing the biomechanics of the foot with the right farriery.

In 2015, I wrote an article titled Living with Laminitis in the 21st Century. I have re-worked the article which steps through many of the key concepts I use today - 11 years later! Take aways include

1️⃣ There is evidence of laminitis in horses living in pre-historic times before domestication

2️⃣ The three risk categories for developing laminitis: 1. Sepsis associated, endocrine (or hormone) associated, and Support limb laminitis

3️⃣ The role of insulin in the development of laminitis

4️⃣Use of radiographs and venograms to determine the prognosis

5️⃣ Not one size fits all when supporting the laminitic hoof
