Does your horse have a Prophet’s Thumbprint?

A Prophet’s Thumbprint is a small natural indentation, usually found on the side of a horse’s neck. It’s completely harmless, but over the years it has become wrapped in one of the horse world’s most beautiful legends.

The story goes that the Prophet Mohammed was travelling across the desert with his horses when they finally reached water after days without a drink. As the thirsty horses rushed toward the oasis, he called them back. Only a handful of loyal mares stopped and returned to him.

In gratitude for their loyalty, he is said to have pressed his thumb into their necks, leaving a mark that would be passed down through generations.

Whether fact or folklore, many horse people still believe a horse with a Prophet’s Thumbprint carries something a little special... loyalty, courage, heart, and perhaps just a touch of magic. ✨
