Trying to mentally stimulate a crazy spaniel while also entertaining yourself is a full time hobby. 😂🐾
Sniffing games, hide and seek, puzzle toys, training challenges, obstacle courses around the house... honestly, half the fun is seeing what ridiculous solution they’ll come up with.
A tired spaniel isn’t just one that’s been walked. It’s one that’s had its brain switched on.
The bonus? You end up laughing the whole time.
Life with a spaniel is never boring, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💛

Puppy socialisation isn’t just about saying hello to every dog and every person you pass 🐾

In fact, good socialisation often looks… pretty boring 👀

It’s about teaching puppies how to observe the world calmly. Different surfaces, sounds, people, environments, dogs, movement and everyday life — without feeling the need to interact with everything around them.

Boris LOVES the beach. Naturally, it brings out the puppy crazies and zoomies 🌊🐶 But real life matters too. If you’ve got a lead in one hand and a toddler in the other, frantic excitement isn’t always ideal.

That’s why we also practice calm.

Watching the waves.
Settling near distractions.
Learning that excitement doesn’t have to happen every single time.

“Fun” absolutely has its place! But so does emotional regulation, neutrality and the ability to switch off.

The goal isn’t a puppy who wants to meet everyone.
It’s a puppy who can confidently exist in the world 💛

He might be getting older, but he still loves getting out and about. 🐾💜

One thing I love about senior dogs is that they remind us to slow down.

Walks don’t have to be long or fast to be worthwhile. Sometimes it’s just about letting them sniff, potter around, and enjoy being outside.

As dogs get older, their needs change. They might not want to walk as far, but they still need enrichment, fresh air and a chance to explore the world.

I always let older dogs set the pace. If they want to stop and sniff, we stop and sniff. If they need a break, we take one.

Growing old doesn’t mean the adventures stop. They just look a little different.

I think there’s something really special about that. 💛

Some dogs change your life in ways you never expect.

For me, that dog is Trigg. 🖤🐾

He came into my life and reminded me why I fell in love with dogs in the first place. He’s challenged me, taught me patience, made me laugh, and pushed me to keep learning every single day.

Because of him, I look at behaviour differently. I see the value in slowing down, listening, and understanding what a dog is trying to communicate instead of simply correcting it.

He’s the reason I spend so much time learning about enrichment, confidence building, and meeting dogs where they are.

He didn’t just become my dog… He became my greatest teacher.

Every challenge we’ve worked through has strengthened our bond. Every adventure has built our trust. Every little success has reminded me that progress isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up for your dog, every single day.

Without Trigg, there wouldn’t be the same passion behind Sniff & Stroll.

So here’s to the dog who unknowingly changed the direction of my life.

Thank you for trusting me, teaching me, and reminding me every day just how incredible dogs really are.

I hope I can help other dogs and their humans build the same kind of relationship we have. 💛

Sniffing games are SO much more than just a fun activity for dogs 🐾👃

For many breeds, sniffing isn’t a hobby — it’s what they were literally created to do.

Hounds, spaniels, retrievers and many working breeds have generations of genetics behind that nose. Tracking, searching, detecting and following scent is deeply fulfilling because it taps into natural instincts and breed purpose.

When dogs don’t have appropriate outlets for those instincts, they’ll often find their own ways to meet those needs…

Constant scavenging.
Pulling on walks.
Being “distracted” outside.
Difficulty settling.
Obsessive behaviours.
Overarousal.

A lot of the time, the dog isn’t being difficult — they’re underfulfilled.

Sniffing games give dogs an outlet that is calming, enriching and mentally exhausting in the best way possible 💛

Scatter feeding.
Find-it games.
Snuffle mats.
Scent trails.
Searching for toys or food.

Simple activities can make a huge difference to a dog’s wellbeing because we’re working WITH their biology, not against it.

Sometimes meeting a dog’s needs starts with letting them use their nose 🐶

Confidence building doesn’t always have to look big or exciting 🐾

Sometimes it’s as simple as standing on a different surface, at a different height, and learning to pause and take in the world.

For some dogs, something as ordinary as a concrete slab can feel a little strange at first — new textures, elevation, movement underneath, different surroundings. Small challenges like this help dogs learn how to process novelty calmly and build resilience over time 💛

This is especially important for thoughtful, sensitive breeds like Rough Collies, who often notice everything around them. Giving them the chance to explore at their own pace helps create confidence that carries over into everyday life.

Not every training session needs to be high energy.
Sometimes the biggest wins come from stillness, observation and quiet confidence ✨

Some walks feel a little bit special ✨🌈

The rain had just passed, the sun came out, and for a moment we were treated to this incredible view.

But what made it even better? Sharing it with two happy dogs.

These moments are a reminder that walks are about so much more than exercise. They’re about exploring, sniffing, experiencing new environments, and taking in everything the world has to offer.

The smells after rain.
The fresh air.
The different textures under their paws.
The chance to simply be dogs.

Sometimes the best enrichment comes from slowing down and appreciating what’s already around us 💛

And every now and then, nature puts on a little show to remind us just how lucky we are.

Dogs living together don’t have to be constantly playing, interacting or in each other’s space to have a great relationship 🐾💛

One of the most underrated signs of appropriate social behaviour is the ability to simply coexist peacefully.

Choosing to rest near each other.
Sharing space calmly.
Moving away when needed.
Respecting boundaries and communication.

Healthy relationships between dogs often look quiet and uneventful and that’s a good thing.

Dogs, just like us, deserve personal space. The ability to disengage, relax and exist comfortably around one another without pressure is such an important social skill.

Not every interaction needs to be high energy play. In fact, constantly being “on” with each other can sometimes lead to overstimulation, tension or conflict over time.

Calm companionship matters too ✨

Teaching dogs to value rest, neutrality and appropriate communication helps create more balanced relationships and safer social interactions overall.

The breakthrough moments are powerful 💛🐾

The first calm walk.
The first successful pass-by.
The first recall.
The first time they chose you over the environment.
The first moment they relaxed in a situation that used to overwhelm them.

Sometimes these milestones feel small to other people. But when you know the journey behind them, they mean everything.

Progress with dogs is rarely linear. There will be amazing days, messy days, setbacks and moments where you question whether anything is working at all.

That’s why it’s so important to look back at how far you and your dog have already come.

The dog who once couldn’t settle, now naps beside you.
The dog who reacted at every trigger, now checks in.
The dog who lacked confidence, now explores the world more freely.

On the “bad” days, those milestones matter most. They remind us that progress is still progress, even when it doesn’t feel perfect.

Growth takes time.
Confidence takes repetition.
Trust takes consistency.

And every breakthrough deserves to be celebrated ✨

There’s something special about dogs that just radiate calm energy 🐾💛

No rush.
No chaos.
Just quietly taking in the world around them.

Walks aren’t always about covering distance. sometimes they’re about slowing down, sniffing the breeze, feeling the grass under their paws, and simply being present.

These moments matter.

For dogs, time outside is more than exercise. It’s enrichment, decompression, and a chance to engage with the world in a way that feels natural to them 🌿

And honestly… seeing a relaxed, content dog enjoying the simple things is one of the best parts of this job.

A happy dog doesn’t always have to be the loudest one in the room.
Sometimes it’s the quiet contentment that says the most ✨
