We treat a range of different species, from dogs and cats to birds, exotic pets and reptiles! Our family of friendly nursing staff is always on hand to give advice, help with general pet care inquiries and of course, to be there while your pet is in hospital, discussing your pets care and keeping you up to date with your pets progress. Did you know that Dr Michelle performs Transcervical Insemination (TCI) procedures at North Richmond Vet Hospital? 🤩

TCI is a minimally invasive breeding technique that allows semen to be deposited directly into the uterus using a specialised endoscope and catheter, without the need for surgery or general anaesthesia in most cases.

Why choose TCI?

✔️ No surgical incision required
✔️ Usually performed with minimal restraint
✔️ Suitable for fresh, chilled, or frozen semen
✔️ Allows visualisation of the cervix during the procedure
✔️ Can help maximise breeding success when used alongside accurate ovulation timing

TCI is commonly used by breeders when utilising semen from interstate or overseas sires, or when natural mating is not possible or practical. Combined with progesterone testing and careful reproductive management, TCI can be an excellent option for breeding programs.

NRVH has a strong interest in reproduction and works closely with breeders to provide tailored reproductive services, from fertility management and ovulation timing through to insemination procedures and pregnancy diagnosis.

Teamwork in Action at North Richmond Vet Hospital 👭

Recently, Dr Abbey and Dr Nao worked together to perform an exploratory laparotomy (ex-lap) on a patient requiring urgent surgical investigation 🚨

An exploratory laparotomy is a procedure where the abdomen is carefully opened and examined to identify and treat conditions that may not be fully visible on imaging alone. This can include foreign bodies, intestinal obstructions, masses, internal injuries and other abdominal diseases.`

Thanks to the skill, dedication and teamwork of our veterinary team, the procedure was completed successfully, giving our patient the best possible chance for a positive outcome 🥰

Surgery is always a collaborative effort, and we are incredibly proud of our whole team for the care and attention they provide to every patient that comes through our doors 💜🩺💙

📢 Clinic Closure Reminder 📢

North Richmond Vet Hospital will be closed on the public holiday, Monday 8th June.

For any emergencies, our After Hours Service will remain available for existing clients only.

If your pet requires routine care, medication refills or food collections, please ensure these are organised before the long weekend as we will officially be closed from 2pm on Saturday 6th June.

We will reopen and resume normal trading hours on Tuesday 9th June from 8am

Sometimes the best families find us when we least expect it 🦜

A little galah was handed into North Richmond Vet some months ago after being found as a stray. Our team worked hard to try and locate the original owner, with a number of possible owners coming to visit, but sadly we could not find the original owner of this sweet feathered friend.

During their stay with us, one of our wonderful vet nurses absolutely fell in love… and we’re happy to share that this lucky galah has now officially found a forever home with one of our own 🥹🩷

From stray to spoiled, this cheeky little bird is has definitely settled into the good life filled with love, care and plenty of attention.

Thank you to everyone who shared and helped us try to reunite this beautiful bird with their family. While we couldn’t find their original home, we’re so grateful they’ve landed safely in a caring one 💜🩺💙

Welcome to another “Meet the Team at NRVH 🐾”

It’s Saturday again, which means it’s time to celebrate another one of our amazing team members and this week the spotlight is on the lovely April! 🤩

April has been part of the NRVH family since 2013, making her one of our longest standing team members and a very familiar face around the clinic, being with us since Dr Karen owned the clinic.

April is the kind of person who brings warmth and positivity wherever she goes. She is always there to support her teammates, comfort worried clients and give endless love and care to all of her patients.

April has a passion for not only emergency & critical nursing. But the weird and wonderful of all wildlife and exotic species that walk through our doors!

Having spent so many years with the clinic, April has watched NRVH grow and evolve over time and has been there through so many memorable moments. Her dedication and loyalty to both the clinic and our clients has never wavered and we are so incredibly grateful for everything she does 🥰

Over the years she has become such an important part of our work family and we truly couldn’t imagine NRVH without her! 💙🩺💜

Recently we have had a few rabbits present in the clinic with the untreatable disease, Myxomatosis 🥺

Myxomatosis is a serious and often fatal viral disease affecting rabbits in Australia. It is commonly spread by mosquitoes, fleas, flies and direct contact with infected rabbits 🦟

Unfortunately, there is currently no effective cure once a rabbit becomes infected, so humane euthanasia is the only way we can help these suffering bunnies as there is no current vaccination available in Australia 😢

Signs of myxomatosis may include:
⚠️Swollen eyelids, eyes and/or ge****ls
⚠️Puffy face or ears
⚠️Lethargy and loss of appetite
⚠️Difficulty breathing
⚠️Skin swelling or lumps

How to help protect your rabbit:
🐾Keep rabbits indoors where possible
🐾Use mosquito screens and insect control
🐾Eliminate standing water around the home
🐾Keep rabbit areas clean and dry
🐾Bringing your rabbit indoors before dusk
🐾Monitor your rabbit closely for any changes in behaviour or appearance

If you notice any concerning signs, contact your veterinarian immediately!
