Did you know that hay acts as a natural heater for horses?
That's because it's broken down through fermentation in the hindgut, generating a whole load of metabolic heat, and providing the horse with a steady body temperature during the cold night.
Good hay costs on average $30 per bale and our herd chomp its way through barn fulls of the stuff during winter!

It's the first day of Winter today!🥶🌨️☃️
Many of our horses are elderly, previously malnourished or have suffered trauma before arriving at our sanctuary and require special attention and/or a customised diet. Winter is especially hard when the weather is cold and paddock grass is limited and they need a whole lot more calories to keep them at a healthy weight to support their overall wellness.

Meet Iggy, Ozzy and Eddy!
These three little guys were recently surrendered to us by their elderly owner who has gone into care and has no family living nearby. He loves them dearly and was very concerned for their welfare, so we were happy to take them in. They are all in their teens and are slowly settling into their new home.
