Meet some of our tiniest visitors at Southpaws Malvern! 🐾 These stray kittens may be small, but they remind us of the big impact kitten season has here in Victoria — even as we move into June.

Why it matters:
• A single un-desexed cat can have multiple litters each year 😳
• Kittens born outdoors face risks like starvation, illness, and parasites
• Early veterinary care can make all the difference in giving them a healthy start 💙

How you can help:
• Desex your pets — the simplest way to prevent unwanted litters
• Observe before intervening — mum might still be nearby caring for her babies
• Reach out to a vet or local rescue if kittens appear unwell or abandoned

Last week we put out a desperate call for a blood donor..

Oati and his mum answered our call. ❤️🩸

This gorgeous 3-year-old Shetland Sheepdog x came into hospital for his very first donation and was an absolute superstar from start to finish. Calm, gentle, and incredibly brave, Oati donated an amazing 487mL of blood that will help save the lives of critically ill patients in need.

Even more special — Oati is DEA 1.1 negative, making him an especially valuable donor for emergency transfusions.

Emergency hospitals rely heavily on the kindness of donor dogs and their families, especially during urgent after-hours situations when every minute matters. Oati’s mum dropped everything to help another pet they’ve never even met, and that generosity means the world to our team and the families we care for.

Thank you, Oati. You truly are a hero and we couldn't be prouder of you. 🐶❤️
