Casual Veterinary Nurse | Mid-September 2026 – January 2027
Cheltenham Veterinary Clinic
We're looking for an experienced, confident and reliable casual Veterinary Nurse to join our small but busy GP veterinary clinic in Cheltenham, Victoria, providing annual leave cover from mid-September 2026 through to January 2027.
We are a friendly team of 4 vets and 5 nurses, and we're looking for someone who can slot into our team and get straight into the role.
🐶 The Role
Initially, the position will be approximately 21 hours per week across 3 days, including every second Saturday.
Hours will increase as we head into the busy holiday period:
● September–October: Approximately 21 hours per week over 3 days
● November: Increased hours as annual leave coverage increases
● December–January: More full-time hours available as multiple team members take annual leave
● Monday–Friday: Shifts will vary between 8:00am–7:00pm
● Every second Saturday until November: 8:30am–3:00pm
● Saturday penalty rates apply
There may be some flexibility around days and hours for the right applicant.
🩺 Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a fully competent Veterinary Nurse who is confident working independently and comfortable with the day-to-day demands of a busy GP clinic.
You will need to be competent in:
● Placing IV catheters
● Collecting blood samples
● Anaesthetic monitoring
● Animal restraint and handling
● Surgical and general nursing duties
● In-house pathology
● Preparing patients for procedures
● Cleaning, sterilising and maintaining equipment
● Medication preparation and administration
● General patient care
● Reception duties, including answering phones and booking appointments
● Providing friendly and professional client communication
This position is unfortunately not suitable for a student or someone requiring on-the-job training.
We are a busy clinic with a small team, so we need someone who can hit the ground running, confidently perform the core nursing duties and require minimal supervision.
