Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there — especially the ones who go the extra mile for their fur babies! 🐶🐱🐾

From the early morning walks and endless games of fetch, to the cuddles on the couch, sneaky treats and “who’s a good boy?” conversations… our pets are certainly lucky to have such loving dads! 🥰

Today we celebrate all the dads who love, care for, protect and spoil their four-legged family members. ❤️

🌬️🐾 BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES, SYDNEY! 🐾🌬️

Wow… this wind is horrendous! 💨💨 With the weather changing so quickly, it’s a great time to make sure our furry family members are safe and secure.

🔒 Check those gates are securely locked — strong winds can cause gates and fences to move or blow open.

🏡 Keep pets safely indoors where possible, especially if the weather becomes frightening or unpredictable.

🌳 Secure anything outside that could blow around — pot plants, bins, umbrellas, outdoor furniture and anything else that could become a hazard.

🐶🐱 Make sure your pets are microchipped and their details are up to date, just in case they do manage to escape.

⚡️ Keep an eye on anxious pets — loud wind, banging and changes around the house can be very unsettling for some animals.

And most importantly… don’t underestimate the wind! 🌪️

Stay safe, Sydney — and keep those precious paws tucked safely inside. ❤️🐾

Batten down the hatches and give your pets an extra cuddle tonight! 🥰

🥝 MEET KIWI — OUR VERY OWN PRACTICE MANAGER… CAT! 🐱💼

Every veterinary practice needs a good Practice Manager… but ours comes with whiskers, attitude and absolutely no interest in following the rules! 😂

Meet Kiwi, our resident feline Practice Manager. 🥝🐾

Kiwi takes her managerial responsibilities VERY seriously — especially when it comes to:
📦 Quality control: Every cardboard box must be thoroughly inspected.
☀️ Staff wellbeing: Regular sunbathing sessions are mandatory.
👀 Supervision: Everything must be watched… preferably from the most inconvenient location possible.
😴 Work-life balance: Long naps are encouraged and meetings may be cancelled without notice.
🐾 Important decisions: Usually made after a quick snack.

As you can see, Kiwi is particularly passionate about box management and has clearly found herself a very important executive office! 📦🤣

And when she’s not managing the household, you’ll find her soaking up the sunshine, stretching out and generally looking adorable. ❤️

We think she might just be the best Practice Manager around… although we’re still waiting for her to approve the staff leave requests! 😂🥝🐱

🦷✨ WOW — we’ve had some fun with our dentals this week! ✨🦷

Behind those cute faces are some very important smiles! 💕 Our dental patients have been keeping us busy, and the results have been amazing.

From removing painful dental disease to giving those teeth a much-needed clean, our goal is always the same — helping our patients feel healthier, happier and MUCH more comfortable. 🐶🐱💖

Dental disease can cause pain and discomfort that our pets often hide so well. Once that sore mouth is treated, it’s wonderful to see them feeling like themselves again — eating comfortably, enjoying their treats and giving us those big happy smiles! 🥰

A big WOW to all our brave dental patients this week. You’ve all been absolute superstars! ⭐️

🚨🐾 TICK SEASON IS HERE — AND WE’RE ALREADY SEEING TICK PARALYSIS CASES 🐾🚨

We are already seeing patients presenting with tick paralysis, so now is the time to make sure your dogs and cats are protected. ❤️

Paralysis ticks (Ixodes holocyclus) can cause rapidly progressing paralysis and can be fatal without urgent treatment. Even pets who spend most of their time at home can be at risk.

⚠️ KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

Early signs can include:

🐾 Weakness or wobbliness, particularly in the back legs
🐾 Difficulty walking or climbing stairs
🐾 A change in their bark or meow
🐾 Retching, coughing or vomiting
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 Difficulty swallowing
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Progressive weakness or paralysis
🐾 Difficulty breathing

Tick paralysis can progress quickly, so don’t wait to see if your pet improves.

🔎 CHECK YOUR PET EVERY DAY

Even if your pet is using tick prevention, daily tick searches are still important.

Run your fingers carefully over your pet, paying particular attention to:

👂 Around and inside the ears
🐶 Face and neck
🦷 Around the lips and mouth
🐾 Between the toes and around the paws
🩷 Armpits and groin
🐕 Under collars and harnesses
🍑 Around the tail and bottom

Ticks can be surprisingly difficult to find, so a thorough search is essential.

🏥 WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR PET HAS TICK PARALYSIS?

Tick paralysis is a veterinary emergency. Treatment may involve careful tick removal, tick-killing medication, tick antiserum, oxygen and intensive nursing/supportive care depending on how affected your pet is. Patients with more advanced paralysis may require hospitalisation and respiratory support.

🛡️ PREVENTION IS KEY

✔️ Keep your pet’s tick prevention up to date
✔️ Use a product recommended specifically for your pet — dogs and cats require different products, and some dog tick products can be toxic to cats
✔️ Never miss doses or let protection lapse
✔️ Check your pet daily
✔️ Be especially vigilant after walks or time spent around bushland, long grass and dense vegetation
✔️ Speak with our veterinary team about the best tick prevention for your individual pet

Australian pets remain at risk from paralysis ticks, and veterinary-recommended parasite prevention is an important part of keeping them safe.

🚨 MOST IMPORTANTLY…

If your pet has a tick, or you notice ANY signs of weakness, wobbliness, drooling, vomiting, coughing, difficulty swallowing or breathing — contact us immediately.

Don’t wait until your pet becomes paralysed. Every minute matters. ❤️🐾

🐾💗 Meet Mickey! 💗🐾

Here is Dr Sara with the sweetest boy, Mickey, who came to visit her at our Glenhaven Veterinary Hospital. 🥰

Dr Sara was absolutely smitten with this gorgeous boy — and we think Mickey was pretty happy with her too! 😍

While Dr Sara gave Mickey a thorough examination, he decided the best place to be was simply chilling out on the floor, looking completely relaxed and enjoying all the attention. 😂🐶

It’s safe to say Mickey had the time of his life, and Dr Sara certainly didn’t mind having such a beautiful boy to cuddle and care for! ❤️

What a little sweetheart! 🥰🐾

🐾💙 What a day for sweet little Colby! 💙🐾

Colby came to visit us at our Winston Hills Veterinary Hospital for a day procedure, and what an absolute superstar he was! 🥰

It was only Colby’s second visit with us, but he settled in beautifully and was such an amazing little patient from start to finish. 🌟🐶

Lots of cuddles, gentle care and plenty of reassurance from our team helped make his day as comfortable as possible. 💕

We were so proud of you, gorgeous Colby! 🥹🐾💙

We hope you’re home now, resting up and being thoroughly spoilt! 🏡✨

💕🐾 Meet little Evangeline! 🐾💕

At just 2 weeks old, little Evangeline came in to see us for some gunky little eyes. 🥹💕

She was the perfect little patient, all snuggled up in her adorable little burrito wrap while our team checked her over. 🌯🐶

And after all that excitement… she simply went straight back to sleep at the end of her consult! 😴💕

It doesn’t get much cuter than this! 🥰

We hope your beautiful little eyes are feeling better very soon, sweet Evangeline. 💕🐾

💕🐾 A BIG DAY FOR LITTLE TORI! 🐾💕

It was a big day for little Tori today at our Winston Hills Veterinary Hospital! 🏥✨

Tori came in for her regular desexing procedure and, although she was a little unsure about her big adventure, she certainly wasn’t alone! 🥰

Her gorgeous sister Molly was right by her side, providing plenty of love, comfort and moral support every step of the way. 💕🐶🐶

With a sister like Molly by her side and our wonderful team looking after her, Tori was in the very best hands! 🩷
