Kidding is finally over - it's had some ups & downs so has taken priority over the last couple of weeks. I'll be following up on missed messages etc & hopefully have an update soon on the dogs recently posted for rehoming 😊

"Big-Hearted Maremma Seeking Space and Experienced Rural Home

Busta is big beautiful, 3 and 1/2 yr old, desexed male Maremma looking for a rural home where he can thrive.
He came from a rough start in a small city unit, but with patience and love, he is an affectionate house dog. Busta sleeps on my bed, knows sit, shakes hands and respects indoor boundaries.

Busta requires another Maremma savvy, rural home - he is NOT suited to a suburban home. He has well developed guardian traits.
He has been good with the other dogs in his family. He currently lives near cattle and horses. Has not been tested with poultry or goats.

Busta is a fantastic watchdog. He will bark at visitors and needs managed introductions on a lead until he trusts them. Once you are in the circle he is loving and loyal. He has good recall in his territory.

We love Busta dearly, but due to my changing health conditions, I can no longer give him the exercise he needs. We want to ensure he goes to a home that truly understands the breed."

This has been a heartbreaking decision for Busta's owner & she is very bravely putting her dog's future needs first.

We've a bottle baby & Ben has introduced himself so sweetly 🌻
I didn't instruct him - just observing close by in case I needed to - he chose where he placed himself & just waited ever so patiently for her to approach 💕

Also, Ben's adoption arrangements are underway - he had a LOT of interest & rightfully so, he's just awesome 😊 - & we think we've been able to choose a wonderful home for him 😊

I'm posting this girl again....I can't believe she still hasn't found her family. If you like the idea of a Maremma but worry about how you'll go with the coat & the barking.....Kaya could be the dog for you 😊

She's a Maremma x Labrador, we think, maybe 😊 (purely our best guess judging by her looks & behaviours 😊 we are only certain mum was a Maremma). Her coat is very easy care & more like German Shepherd dense & plushy than Maremma floof 😊

Lovely, BIG girl (over 50kg), she's very good with introduced visitors, cats & dogs (not good with similar sized female dogs) and safe with chickens, from baby hatchlings to big stroppy roosters 🙂

She would absolutely suit a companion home, she is house-trained and very polite & well mannered in the house. She is NOT a nuisance barker yet is a formidable guardian of her home. Ideally, she'd love some space but she is quite happy within our house yard, as long as reasonable exercise is provided. She loooves a swim 😊

She's not suited to living with livestock (or geese), or out in a paddock, at all.

She loves children & is very gentle, has solid basic training, is a real cuddler & would love to find a family that would include her in everything 😊

She's also just a bit beautiful 🥰

After sharing a couple of rehoming posts, firstly thank you to all who shared, told a friend or otherwise passed the info on to someone suitable looking for their next Maremma 🥰

I would like to clarify a few things though. Whilst we do regularly take dogs into our care, when a dog has a safe home & the rehoming is not urgent, we always explore the option of rehoming directly from current to new. When this occurs, we assist the existing owner to navigate the risk of an unsuitable home & the offer of support to the new owner to help with a smooth transition & resettling is always open. For some dogs, one change of circumstance is much more manageable than two. We also offer training advice & support when that is an option that may help someone keep their dog.

Also, not all rescue dogs (granted a lot, but not all) come from unsuitable homes or owners who don’t want them. Life happens to us all – family break-ups, domestic violence, passing of a loved one & nowadays, as the housing crisis bites hard, homelessness. In the last 2 years, we’ve had more dogs come from families losing their home than anything else 🙁
