We’re proud to announce a new collaboration between the University of Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden (Equine Centre - Reproduction Team), and Willinga Park Vet Hospital, expanding access to advanced o**m pick-up (OPU) services.

This collaboration combines our specialist equine reproduction expertise with Willinga Park’s world-class facilities, giving mare owners access to advanced assisted reproductive technologies and specialist care.

Our equine reproduction team, led by Registered Specialists in Theriogenology Dr Gus Ruiz and Dr Rory Nevard, together with Veterinary Registrar and Theriogenology Resident Dr Paulina Supera-Gallo, assisted by equine vet nurse Sharniece McInnes perform the OPU procedure at Willinga Park’s facilities on the New South Wales South Coast. The recovered oocytes are then sent to an ICSI laboratory for fertilisation and embryo production.

Through o**m pick-up (OPU) and intracytoplasmic s***m injection (ICSI), mares can continue competing while producing valuable embryos, offering a more flexible approach than traditional breeding methods.

We look forward to working alongside the Willinga Park team to deliver exceptional reproductive care and expand access to advanced breeding solutions for the Australian equine industry.

Today we are reflecting on a fantastic experience for 'Love the Horse Day', hosted by Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) in collaboration with the University of Sydney Equine Interest Group.

Held at Centennial Park Equestrian Centre, this free workshop welcomed 21 students from the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology (BVB), Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (AVBS), and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programs.

Students had the opportunity to connect with equine veterinarians, hear firsthand insights about the profession, and discuss common myths about working with horses. After a BBQ lunch, students took part in practical, hands-on sessions designed to build confidence in handling and working around horses.

We were proud to have Dr Marta Wereszka, Equine Surgery Specialist, represent our University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Equine Centre and share her passion for equine medicine with attendees.

Thank you to EVA for creating this opportunity for students to learn from experienced practitioners, ask questions, and gain real-world experience as they explore careers in equine veterinary medicine. ❤️🐴

This rigorous postgraduate qualification recognises advanced clinical knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of equine patients.

Studying for and sitting Membership examinations is a significant commitment that requires dedication, perseverance, and hard work. We are very proud of Cyrus' achievement and the commitment he has shown in reaching this important professional milestone. 👏

Strangles remains one of the most common infectious diseases in horses, particularly where horses mix, travel, or attend events.

For a limited time, our Camden Equine team is offering the strangles vaccine at $45 per dose.

The vaccine helps reduce the severity of the disease. It is recommended for horses at higher risk. Protection starts with an initial three‑dose course, given two weeks apart (from three months of age), followed by boosters every 6 to 12 months.

If your horse is overdue for their booster or hasn’t started the course yet, our team can help you plan the right schedule.

To book, or to talk through whether vaccination is right for your horse, contact us 02 4655 0777.
