Everyone Looks Past Daisy – She Urgently Needs a Home

Beautiful Daisy has been waiting at the Tshwane SPCA Waltloo Branch for a very long time.

Whenever visitors approach her kennel, she looks up with hope in her eyes. She watches them look at her and then continue walking, leaving her behind once again.

Sadly, black dogs are often overlooked and are among the last to be adopted. But Daisy’s dark coat does not make her any less beautiful, loving or deserving of a family.

She is only 1½ years old and has her whole life ahead of her. She should be discovering the happiness of family life—not spending her days watching other doggies leave while she continues to wait.

Daisy is beautiful, special and worthy of being chosen. All she needs is one person to truly see her, open their heart and give her the loving home she so desperately needs.

Everyone Looks at Her… But Then Walks Away

This beautiful 3-year-old Collie Cross girl has been waiting at the Tshwane SPCA Waltloo Branch for far too long.

Each time visitors approach, she looks up with hope in her eyes. Perhaps this will be the person who stops. Perhaps today will finally be the day she is chosen.

But time after time, people look at her… and then walk away.

She watches other doggies leave with their new families while she remains behind, still waiting and wondering why nobody chooses her. She does not understand why she is continually overlooked when she has so much love to give.

Behind those beautiful eyes is a gentle heart longing for a family, a warm bed and a place where she will finally belong. She deserves more than another day spent waiting in a kennel.

🌳🐾 When you ask, sometimes someone really does listen! 🐾🌳
A little while ago, we put out a request for plants and trees to bring some much-needed greenery to our adoption area. We had the pots ready and waiting, but they were filled with nothing more than sand.
Today, we are incredibly grateful to share that we have received a generous donation of 20 trees from Malanseuns through the Plantland Tree Initiative. These trees will help transform our adoption area into a greener, more welcoming space for our animals and the people looking to give them loving homes.
A huge thank you to the team at Malanseuns Nurseries and Plantland for your kindness and support. Your contribution will make a lasting difference to our shelter, our animals, and our visitors.
We cannot wait to get these trees planted and watch our adoption area grow into the beautiful, peaceful space we have always envisioned. 💚

Being situated adjacent to the Waterkloof Air Force Base, our animals are often exposed to loud aircraft noise, which can be stressful and traumatic, particularly for those who are already vulnerable or anxious. With the upcoming airshow, we need to begin assisting our animals several days in advance, as flight practice exercises and increased aircraft activity start well before the main event.

To help prepare, we are putting measures in place to keep our animals as calm and comfortable as possible during this challenging period.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Milkor for their generous donation of Calmeez medication. This contribution will play an important role in helping us support the wellbeing of the animals in our care.

We know that many of our animals will greatly benefit from your kindness and generosity. Thank you for partnering with us and for helping us provide comfort, care and reassurance to those who need it most.

From all of us at the Tshwane SPCA, and especially from the animals whose lives you are helping to improve, thank you, Milkor. ❤️🐾

The donation was made to provide Calmeez tablets for the animals at the Tshwane SPCA ahead of the upcoming Africa Aerospace and Defence Show.

WHY ARE BLACK DOGS SO OFTEN THE LAST TO BE CHOSEN?

There is something heartbreaking that happens far too often in animal adoption: black dogs are frequently overlooked.

They sit quietly behind kennel doors while people walk past them, sometimes barely giving them a second glance. Lighter-coloured dogs may catch someone’s eye first, while the beautiful black dog waiting right beside them remains unseen.

And yet, underneath that black coat is exactly the same loving heart.

A heart that longs for attention.
A heart that gets excited when someone approaches the kennel.
A heart that hopes, every single day, that perhaps today will finally be the day someone stops and chooses them.

Black dogs can be incredibly beautiful. Their shiny coats, soulful eyes and expressive faces are striking, but photographs do not always capture just how gorgeous they are in person. Sometimes their features disappear in pictures, and sadly, in a world where so many people first see animals through photographs and social media, that can mean they are overlooked before anyone even gets the chance to meet them.

There are also old myths, superstitions and unconscious preferences surrounding black animals that have followed them for generations. None of these things say anything about the dog standing in front of you.

A black dog is not less friendly.
Not less beautiful.
Not less deserving.
And certainly not less capable of becoming somebody’s best friend.

At the Tshwane SPCA Waltloo and Centurion Branches, we currently have many beautiful black doggies waiting for loving homes.

Some are young and playful. Some are gentle and quiet. Some have been waiting much longer than they ever should have had to.

Day after day, they watch other dogs leave with their new families while they remain behind.

Imagine seeing people approaching your kennel and getting excited every time, only to watch them walk away again.

Imagine waiting weeks or months for someone to finally look beyond the colour of your coat and see you.

These doggies do not understand why they are overlooked. They do not know that people may be choosing another dog simply because it photographs differently or has a lighter coat.

They only know that they are still waiting.

Please, when you are considering adoption, do not walk past the black dog.

Stop for a moment. Look into those beautiful eyes. Spend some time with them. Meet the personality behind the colour.

The dog you almost walked past could become the dog you cannot imagine your life without.

Please visit the Tshwane SPCA Waltloo or Centurion Branch and meet our beautiful black doggies available for adoption.

They have already spent enough time being overlooked.

Perhaps one of them has simply been waiting for you.
