Pawsitively Pet Grooming I'm Sonja Smit. I'm a Certified Professional Pet Groomer. It's not all just dogs.

I've got Certification in Dog Behaviour and Psychology. I'm a Fear Free Professional Groomer and Dog Trainer. I'm also a Certified Veterinary Assistant. At the moment I'm busy to further my studies in animal behaviour. When I'm not grooming, training, or teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, and generally playing with my my Pekingese doggies. I enjoy a wide variety of hobbies including needle work and art. If you have a Pomeranian or Pekingese, that beautiful fluffy coat needs more than just an occasional bath and brush. ✨
These breeds have a double coat that serves a purpose — helping protect the skin and regulate body temperature. That’s why regular, correct grooming is so important.
🛁 1. REGULAR BATHING
A clean coat is easier to maintain, healthier for the skin and much less likely to become greasy, dirty or smelly.
💜 2. CONDITIONING
A good conditioning treatment helps keep that beautiful coat soft, hydrated and easier to brush and maintain.
🪮 3. REGULAR BRUSHING
Fluffy doesn’t mean mat-free! Regular brushing helps remove loose coat, prevent tangles and keep the coat in beautiful condition.
💨 4. COMPLETE DRYING
This is a big one! A double coat should be dried thoroughly. Leaving the coat damp can encourage tangling and create an environment where skin problems can develop.
✂️ AND WHAT ABOUT TRIMMING?
A little shaping and tidying can be perfectly appropriate — but shaving or cutting the double coat extremely short is a very different story.
The goal isn't simply to make your Pomeranian or Pekingese look fluffy…
💕 It’s about keeping the coat healthy, functional and comfortable.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all grooming schedule — and that’s exactly why I don’t believe in simply booking every pet for the same interval. ❤️
Your pet’s ideal grooming routine depends on their coat, lifestyle, home maintenance, skin & coat condition, and what they are comfortable with.
✨ EVERY 2–4 WEEKS
For high-maintenance coats, pets prone to matting, pets needing frequent styling or regular hygiene care.
✨ EVERY 3–6 WEEKS
For coats that need regular trimming, shaping, brushing and maintenance — with the exact interval depending on the style and how well the coat is maintained at home.
✨ EVERY 4–8 WEEKS
For short-haired, low-maintenance or non-haircut coats that benefit from regular bathing, deshedding, nail, ear and hygiene care.
🐶 And remember: breed is only part of the picture. Two dogs of the same breed can have completely different grooming needs!
