The heartbreaking news of Oliver’s passing. 💔
Oliver was a fighter right until the very end. And somehow, after everything this beautiful boy had already been through, it makes losing him even harder to accept.
Ollie came into our lives as our daughters Ava’s mate from the very beginning. I can still remember her teaching him his colours and numbers when she was just four years old. And their own special language. They grew up together, and over the years he became so much more than a family friend — he became part of our lives. A reminder that giving up is never an option.
Knowing his story makes his life even more remarkable. He had been beaten, attacked and so badly abused that he had old and new injuries, broken bones and broken ribs. He lost a leg. He had to learn that he no longer needed to fight for his food, that a hand reaching out could mean love and not pain, and that he was finally safe.
And yet, despite everything, he found his way to a life filled with love.
His passing was peaceful and quick, and for that we are grateful. But that doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier.
Some animals come into our lives and leave paw prints on our hearts. Others leave something much deeper — a piece of themselves that stays with us forever.
Oliver left an eternal mark on our lives. ❤️
I truly hope that there is an afterlife. I pray that the souls we love find their way back to us somehow, somewhere, and that one day we will meet again.
Until then, Ollie, run free. No pain. No fear. No fighting.
Just peace. ❤️🐾
You were loved. You were safe. You mattered. And you will never, ever be forgotten.
I can’t tell you how crazy we are that Ollie, our 3 legged rescue came into our lives! Beaten & attacked in the most brutal way, he beat the odds. It wasn’t just one point - there was clearly a long history of him being abused. There were old injuries, new ones. It was months before we could pick him up without him yelping in pain (broken bones, broken ribs). It would be years before he wouldn’t cower when we wanted to love him. It would be months & months before we could touch the area where they amputated his leg. It would be years before we could walk without him wanting to attack other people & dogs. It would be years before he realized he didn’t have to fight for his food. He isn’t your ‘perfect’ dog but he’s perfect for us.
When we ‘fostered’ him for 2 days almost 9 years ago, we would never have fathomed the road all of us had to travel to make him better.
So what’s the point of this story? Don’t give up no matter what.
