y annually assists over 2500 cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies in the communities surrounding Worcester MA. Programs and services include lost and found, boarding, adoptions, low-cost spay/neuter & vaccine clinics, educational programs, foster and volunteer opportunities. Now the largest animal shelter in Central Massachusetts, WARL is a limited intake shelter, accepting pets only when enough kennel space is available; it does not believe in time or space limits for adoptable pets, and uses every resource available to place each one.

Our Pet of the Week, Ziggy, is still here... and she's still just as deserving as ever. ❤️

Sweet Ziggy didn't get much time in the spotlight toward the end of the week, so you know what that means... You guessed it! Ziggy is sticking around as our Pet of the Week for another week! She deserves every bit of the attention because she really is that special.

We are back at it tomorrow with a walk-in adoption day from 12:00–4:00 PM, and we just know the right person is out there for this amazing girl.

Seriously... who's going to scoop up Ziggy before we have a line stretching down Holden Street waiting to meet her? 😉 She is an absolute catch, sweet, friendly, and has such a wonderfully balanced, easygoing energy. She's the kind of dog who is happy to be by your side, whether you're out for an adventure or relaxing at home.

Let's make next week the week Ziggy finds the loving family she's been waiting for. ❤️🏡

Well... our Pet of the Week, Bongo, is GONZO! 😂

We had a feeling that once we highlighted this handsome boy, it wouldn't take long! Our paws are crossed that Bongo settles into his wonderful new home. His new mom was so kind and was already completely smitten with him. Happy tails, Bongo! ❤️🐾

With Bongo off to his forever home, it's time to introduce our next deserving pup...

✨ Meet our new Pet of the Week, Ziggy! ✨

Ziggy is a 4-year-old mixed breed. Rottie? A little Shepherd? We're not quite sure, but for all of you Rottweiler lovers who missed out on Bongo, you definitely need to check out this beautiful girl!

Ziggy is simply a sweet, well-mannered, all-around good dog. She's easygoing, walks beautifully on a leash without much pulling, and enjoys the simpler things in life, good meals, leisurely strolls, and taking plenty of time to stop and smell everything the world has to offer.

She may be able to live with another dog, but we'd want to do a meet-and-greet first to make sure everyone is a good match. We think she'd do great with respectful kids. Since Ziggy came to us as a stray, we don't have any history on how she feels about cats.

One other thing we know she absolutely loves? Butt scratches! 😂 They might just be the quickest way to become her new best friend.

Seriously, this girl is a catch.

Today is our last walk-in adoption day of the week, from 12:00–4:00 PM, and Ziggy will be waiting patiently to meet you. We hope today is her day, that someone sees her photos and realizes just how special she truly is.

Monday, we asked for your help. Today, we just want to say THANK YOU! ❤️

Our community has once again reminded us why we're so grateful to call Worcester home.

Since sharing the news of our unexpected intake of 24 cats, we've received an incredible outpouring of support through donations, shares, kind messages, and words of encouragement. Every single gesture has made a difference, and we're truly thankful.

One thing people don't often think about after a large intake is... how do you come up with 24 names all at once? 🤔

Our team decided these cats deserved a theme as fun and memorable as they are. Truth be told, maybe we were a little hungry, because before we knew it, our brainstorming session looked suspiciously like a grocery list.

Enter: Ben & Jerry's🍦

Before long, we had a whole freezer aisle of names!

So if you notice names like Cherry Garcia, Half Baked, Dublin Mudslide, Bovinity Divinity, and Chunky Monkey popping up in adoption posts, rest assured - we haven't lost it. We just thought this unforgettable crew deserved a naming theme that was every bit as sweet as they are.

We can't wait to introduce you to the rest of our frozen treat family over the coming days and weeks. ❤️

🍦 Let’s start getting these 24 deserving cats into their new fur-ever homes! 🍦

We’re excited to announce that the first 4 cats from our recent intake are now vetted, ready, and looking for families of their own!

After much deliberation, we landed on a theme for their names... Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors! 🍨

🐾 Chunky monkey

But wait, there’s more! While they aren’t part of the group of 24, we also have these adorable felines ready for adoption:

We still have 19 of the 24 recent arrivals working their way through our veterinary process before they can be made available.
