For resting and sleep time, the Desperate Dogs Ranch experience is unlike anywhere else your dog has ever stayed. There are couches everywhere, carpeted rooms and soft, plush dog beds for your precious baby to sink into, enjoying the deepest of sleeps. Mealtimes are a major gastronomic event with fresh succulent meats and vegetables cooked daily and to each dogs' unique requirements by our 'doggy chefs' for our eager guests. DD is the perfect choice if your dog is thunder phobic; not only are our staff incredibly skilled with thunder phobia cases and have years of handling experience, the construction of the house, in sturdy 1960's block and brick with a buried basement, means that we have the perfect noise-muffling environment for the most thunder phobic dog. Our unique phased-integration and relationship-building protocols mean your dog will feel at home, comfortable and part of a new family in no time. Our whole ethos is to let a dog be a dog.....to explore, to breathe, to move freely and to exercise all of the natural drives that dogs have. This, coupled with all of the touches of home, create an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort that bring about a state of mind where learning can take place, social skills can be learned and stresses can be cast off. Dogs always return home calmer, happier and more able to cope with life at home....and they often sleep for three days straight! Aunty Kris here with a top tip to help you give the best life to your dog.
Today I want to tell you about a product we have used for years at the Ranch and right now, with this awful changeable weather we are having, now seems like a good time to share it with you.
Emu oil.
Yep, you read that right, Emu oil, from actual emus.
This super oil from the fat of the emu bird is absolutely fantastic for their coats; we have used emu oil shampoo for itchy skin for years, preferring it to oatmeal shampoo.
But we also keep a spray on hand too, as when skin gets itchy or inflamed, emu oil spray can really calm down flare-ups and ease the itching that dogs get so often this time of year from the damp heat out there.
As with just about everything we recommmed, you can buy it on Amazon and it doesn't have to be the most expensive brand. The Australian emu oils are super expensive but the ones made here in the US like Montana Ranch or Kenic 'Kalaya' emu oil spray are every bit as good and a fair bit cheaper.
If you have a dog with sweat rash, or a little contact dermatitis, you might want to give it a go.
We have found it to be easily accepted by the dogs, it doesn't stink to high heavens, and it's' anti inflammatory properties normally help way better instantly than some of the more expensive pharmaceutical creams and sprays.
