Farm Animal Sanctuary and Cat Adoptions - Message ARRR for an Adoption Application- Open by Appointment Only- (We aren't set up to take in dogs; try The Stray Sanctuary.) We have a pirate theme, even though we are located on the prairie, because the ranch owner is a descendant of a famous pirate and because he worked on a ship for a short while and loved the experience. Sail along with us on this

journey, one which we have dreamed of for years. The ranch is owned by a landlocked pirate and his wife but we couldn't do it without our Crew! ARRR's First Mate (aka- ranch foreman) is Mark. His dedication means everything, especially considering the hot summer months when the work days are long and hectic, followed by the long winter months which are not only a bit dull but can be extremely cold. Each crew member, Mark, Kristi, Cynthia, Kristina, Kara, Jana-Lee and Rachel, is extremely important because they determine the quality of residents lives. ARRR is fortunate enough to have occasional volunteers as well! They provide a little extra TLC. Our Board of Directors: Flint Bibler, Kjersti Eide, Patty Fitterer and Jennifer Eide Bibler

ARRR residents include 32 equine (16 horses, 8 mini horses, 3 donkeys, 1 mule, and 4 ponies), 4 roosters, 5 ducks, 3 sheep, 5 goats, 7 potbelly pigs, 3 hogs, 2 cows and a around 80 cats (this number changes as we take cats in and adopt them out) as of February 2023. The number of animals we take in will remain small so that we can focus on quality care. As with any journey into the unknown, we sometimes experience rough seas and sometimes smooth sailing. The final destination is a comfortable and safe home for many critters. Please jump aboard (like our page) and follow along with the adventure! ARRR gained federal accreditation for 501-(c)(3) non profit status as of October 30, 2015.

Happy Caturday from ARRR! Meet Athena. She and her mom were abandoned in a carrier beside the road in 2021. She was a scrawny kitten, but with proper care, she soon filled out and grew into the lovely tabby cat you see in these photos.

There are problems with Athena living in a shelter setting, so for the benefit of all, she needs to be placed in a home ASAP. Here are her qualities:
*Good with children.
*Tolerant of, and perhaps good with, dogs.
*Can get sassy with other cats if they invade her space.
*Seeks attention, gives loves, prefers pets and snuggles over being held. Loves lap time!
*Smart.
*Playful.
*Pretty eyes.

If you have room in your home and in your heart, please adopt! And please share this post as we really do need to find this attractive tabby a good home. Thank you!

With thirty three eqine, ARRR always appreciates when farrier comes to do trims. I didn't get a photo of Angel, but she was hurting a bit, so she leaned on James during her trim. I'm sure she is experiencing some relief today.

For our followers who aren't horse people: mini horses and ponies are more susceptible to laminitis and EMS than full-size horses. Laminitis can be caused by sugars and starches in green grass. When pastures are green and grass is rich, we "dry-lot" our minis and ponies, which means we take them off pasture and keep them in a lot without grass and just feed hay.

Mini Daisy lived her last few years at ARRR. We don't know anything about her early life, however Daisy was a sweetheart the entire time she lived here at the ranch.

Mini Daisy's hooves got to the point where neither us nor our farrier could do anything more to help her. Her condition was too painful to let it go on. Dr Sorenson sent her across the rainbow bridge.

Daisy's last few days were filled with pets, smiles, and apple slices.

It's been storming here. ARRR lost power at 3:50 Sunday morning. We temporarily lost water but James got the generator...

It's been storming here. ARRR lost power at 3:50 Sunday morning. We temporarily lost water but James got the generator going so that's all good now. Our internet was down, couldn't even send a text, LOL.

ARRR's residents are fine... wet, but fine. The horses, goats and sheep have shelters, the cats stayed indoors, and the piggies enjoyed a roll in the mud.

MWEC posted photos of downed poles and thankfully they've restored power. And Sunday evening brought a second wave, which included hail.
