Join the Second Chance Animal Services for a special event for seniors and their pets! This is a partnership event with the Worcester Senior Center to benefit senior pet owners 60+. You must register beforehand; the info is on the flyer. The event is on October 27th from 9-12 at the Worcester Senior Center. Please reach out with any questions!

So sorry for the late update, but we unfortunately have to extend our open hours by another week. The kitties are doing alright but still recovering from some upper respiratory infections. We are planning to resume open hours on Saturday, October 31st. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Happy Forever Friday! This week we have a special update from a kitty who spent a long time with us and was very scared and shy. He recently went to his forever home and his family has reached out with a nice update and some adorable photos that we’d like to share with you all! Read the update below and see the cute pictures:

“Cheeto is slowly but surely warming up becoming more comfortable he is just getting brave enough to nap on the couch next to me. He loves to play with his toys and get attention. He is the sweetest boy ever. I fell in love with Cheeto from the second I saw his picture online, and even more going to visit him in person I knew he was meant to come home with me.

Bringing him home he was very scared and just wanted to hide but I stayed by his side to show him this is his home now. Cheeto is slowly but surely warming up becoming more comfortable walking around the house like he owns it. Cheeto is very vocal and will tell you when he wants something. He almost always wants more attention lol. He surprised me with how much he loves to run around chasing his toys. His favorite spot is on the couch in a big blanket. My favorite thing he does is when he’s getting pet he will throw his entire body weight onto the floor and roll over to show his belly. Cheeto is extremely smart and the sweetest boy ever.”

A reminder: This weekend is the LAST weekend to participate in our fundraiser at Bemis Farms in Spencer MA for the Scarecrow in a Pot craft! Check out the attached photo for an example of what the craft looks like, and also see the attached flyer with all the info about the event! Thank you to those who came out over the past few weekends to make your own awesome fall decoration to help support a local business and also the CCC! We hope to see you there this weekend, and if you have already made your own decoration, please share a photo in this post. The support is always greatly appreciated, but especially during these weeks while we’ve been closed. Our staff and the kitties thank you!!! 🎃🐈🍁

Update: we apologize for the inconvenience, but we have extended our open hours closure until Saturday 10/24. This is to make sure that the kitties who have come down with upper respiratory infections have time to recover and to avoid sharing with any other kitties. We still are open for our volunteers to care for the kitties, so please don’t worry about them getting fed and cleaned each and every day. In the meantime, please see the attached pictures and check our website to see our available cats on Petfinder and to apply to adopt to be ready when we reopen!

Good news last week though, Lily went home! Her adopter was interested in her spotlight post and it turned out to be a purrfect match! We wish them a long and happy life together; keep an eye out for a forever Friday post soon. 🐈

Don’t forget we are still participating in the Bemis Farms Scarecrow-in-a-Pot fundraiser! Next weekend is the last weekend this event is happening, and today is looking like an EXCELLENT day to head down and enjoy the fall festivities! You support small businesses, help the CCC kitties, and get a super cute decoration to enjoy all season!

Happy Forever Friday! This week we have a special story of this sweet senior pair of kitties this year. Lance and Charlie came to us as a super closely bonded pair - Lance was always outgoing, friendly, and more bold, and Charlie was much more reserved, shy, and would look to Lance for assurance. They were with us for a few months waiting for the right home, and it turned out to be with one of our wonderful volunteers and supporters! Please read below for the sweet update on these lovely kitties:

“Thank you for letting me adopt these two lovebugs. Lance is the biggest sweetheart. Always looking for attention and purrs. I love to snuggle with him in the chair or on the bed. Charlie is a little more on the shy side but she is making a lot of improvement and actually slept on my lap last week. They love each other and are always snuggling together. They are loving all the space they have now with lots of sleeping and roaming areas. 😊”

Thank you for adopting these sweeties and for the update! We’re so glad they’ve settled in well and are happy in their forever home. 🐈 ❤️

Adoption spotlight: Luxurious London!

London has been with us for a long time, 291 days to be exact, since December of last year. She came to us as a stray mama cat with a few kittens who found homes quickly, but she is still waiting for her forever home. In this time, she has warmed up to us but is still shy and nervous, so she would do best in a cat-experienced home that has familiarity with undersocialized cats. We think she would do well with a home with only older children or adults, and we think she would do fine with another friendly cat, but we don’t know about how she would do with dogs.

Reach out if you think London may be a good fit for your family! We are not currently holding open hours this week but the kitties have been well taken care of by our wonderful volunteers in the meantime. Stay tuned for our anticipated re-opening date!

Thank you to the fabulous organizers of the Pet Rock Festival for yet another successful event yesterday 10/4! It is such a pleasure being around so many like-minded people, who love animals and want to protect and cherish them! Us cat people petted an awful lot of pups and a kitty or two. We even got to know the turtles from the next tent over! Thank you to anyone who stopped by our table to chat, make a purchase or leave a donation. And thank you to Starwood Pet Resort for once again collecting donations for us! We appreciate you all!

Notice: we are unfortunately closed to visitors for open hours this week, due to illness in the adoption room. Some of our cats have upper respiratory infections (URIs) and we are trying to control any additional spread. They are being treated, but we don’t want to risk any other cats getting sick. Our volunteers will still be taking care of the cats but with added precautions, handwashing, etc. We will be open again next week for open hours on Wednesday, or later, but we will keep you posted.
